wine users - Apr 2003 - redhat 9?

im trying to compile wine (wine-2003.03.03.18.tgz) when i run wine i get 
wine: chdir to /tmp/.wine-stealth/server-341-21c005 : No such file or 
directory
i am using redhat 9, and i have read some docs i think i was suppose to 
compile with --with-nptl, witch i did but still no go... please help
