http://mp3licensing.com/other/index.html They list: Atrac 3, (E)Pac, AAC ..and various patents of theirs they believe that these formats rely on.. then basically say: "We have not yet determined our licensing policy for this format" Vorbis is not mentioned.. ATRAC3 is Sony MD's encoding method. Unlike MP3, it is ONE HUNDRED PRECENT FRONTWARD AND BACKWARD COMPATIBLE. Totally written by Dolby. Fraunhofer can just eat their shit. If they would dare say something like that about a big company (Dear Dolby: PAY US!), they would rip Vorbis to shreds. For some reason, they think they have the patent on ATRAC. Dolby would kill them in court, but we would have trouble. Is Atrac3 specifically a sony format? and isn't it based on musicam? which I thought pre-dated MPEG?! Or perhaps Fraunhauser have had these patents for sometime before MPEG? I didn't know Frauhauser were part of Thompson, that surely makes things really wierd because Thompson is a huge consumer electronics company, so presumably they are part of a patent pool and were involved in the development of MPEG for all the partners to use (sony for instance) so are they now doing the dirty on people in the MPEG pool on other similar technologies? And do Thompson *really* not make any minidisk players!??? Perhaps I am confused but it all starts to sound really strange. love Freya --- Tom Bishop <Tom@Truly.nu> wrote:> > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Robert J Lynn Jr" <rjlynn@crosswinds.net> > > > > ATRAC3 is Sony MD's encoding method.
