Everyone, It's looking like we're not going to get a draft of the spec done by the end of the month as I'd hoped. However, I'm unwilling to let the schedule slip yet again. We're going to freeze the bitstream as whatever the reference implementation does and just live with any choices that turn out unfortunate in the future. One has to draw the line somewhere. This way people can get on with tools and adoption even if the documentation is incomplete. So, time for release polishing. Please give the code at http://svn.xiph.org/trunk/theora/ a try on your system if you haven't lately, and if there's anything you'd like in for the beta 1 release, now's the time to post it. I'll also be working on the theora-tools module; I'd like to move splayer and the transcode example there and out of the libtheora distribution. Thanks to everyone who's been contributing. I want this to be part of our continuing ramp up to cool things, not just the end we've been stuggling towards for so long. There will be lots more to come, and most of it requires we have a stable bitstream format. Have Beta-1 closely follow with docs/etc. Remember the idea before that there'd be no change in bitstream between the last Alpha and Beta-1. This way Beta-1 can be released with docs and sample videos, etc. Also, if Monty hits his date for OggFile then Beta-1 could ship with OggFile support, and we'd have pleanty of time to get the tools sorted out/etc. --- >8 ---- List archives: http://www.xiph.org/archives/ Ogg project homepage: http://www.xiph.org/ogg/ To unsubscribe from this list, send a message to 'theora-dev-request@xiph.org' containing only the word 'unsubscribe' in the body.
