[ADV] Rails Recipes Beta Book is now available
I''m delighted to announce that Chad Fowler''s new book, Rails Recipes, is now available as a Beta Book. This is a great title for folks who know Rails, and for folks who want to get the most out of Rails. It contains detailed recipes for doing real-world things with Rails, all illustrated with working code. Some examples are drawn from Rails 1.1, the rest from Rails 1.0.

Measuring hosting performance: shared <--> vps <--> dedicated
Every app we build has to be deployed, and the price has to be right. * dedicated servers start at 99$/m (Dreamhost, ..), and shared hosting go up to 47$/m (PlanetArgon) or 60$/m (TextDrive) * Railsplayground: 2$/m * TextDrive dedicated servers : 1000$/m Is there an objective way/tool to measure, test and compare the performance of the hosters? Free "Agile Web Development with Rails" Text
Hi All, I''m a RoR n00b that has been lurking for a week or so. About two weeks ago I bought the text version of Agile Web Development with Rails. Today, I bought the .pdf version because I run a Sony Notebook and find a .pdf more user friendly. Therefore I have the text to give away for free. If anyone in the continental US would like the copy please let me know and I''ll mail it

I''m a beginner. I''ve done the apple tutorial, Agile ROR (the depot app, I stopped after that, a little to advanced with no base knowledge of Ruby), Why''s guide and my copy of Chris Pine''s book today. After Pine, I''m going to buy either the Wrox book or Ruby for Rails book. I did a search and there''s not too much on the Wrox book (Holzner)

ROR Recipes Beta
Yesterday I got the beta version of ROR recipes book and the recipes are great. For those of you still thinking about it, I highly recommend the book. The only thing I wish is that if there were some more recipes (greedy me), especially AJAX related and installing an application within your current application. For instance, it will be great to see how one can implement the typo blog

New rails site. Beta testers need.
Hi Rails List, I need some beta testers for my new site: http://www.smarkets.net. This list is literally the first group to see it, so be gentle. Smarkets is a prediction market for Amazon products. It takes Amazon products and turns them into a stock. The price of these "stocks" move based on the movement of its Amazon sales rank. If the sales rank goes up 10%, the price of the stock

"Rails recipes" vs "Rails cookbook"
Reviews Wanted. I''ve read the tables of contents and haven''t yet made up my mind. Is one book clearly better than the other? Is one clearly full of bugs? Is one so much further ahead that there is no choice? Are they both so incomplete that I should just wait and only cook real food? Do trains still have dining cars? Adding payment to an app: how hard and risky is it?
Hi all. I have never implemented online payment and it''s the only thing that keeps me from accepting a project for a UK based client. (I must reply quickly!) While I can afford spending an extra week - or 2 - to learn/try/tune the payment system, I must be sure to succeed before I accept the contract. If you''ve already been through that path, any hints, links and/or
