Thread moderation and list etiquette (Reference - Another Fedora Decision)
Hi Jim,
Thanks for putting in the effort here. It's never a good situation to have
to moderate, but sometimes it is necessary.
>From my perspective, this kind of thing happens far more often than the
current example, though maybe not with such intensity. This situation
forces me to evaluate if replying to any message on this list is going to
be worth the headache of the inevitable noise

List posting etiquette
Just a tag-on for the thread about list posting etiquette, etc., etc.
The following is a link to an excellent (if wordy) how-to-do-it-right
instruction manaual replete with links to other treatises on the
topic. The entire text of this document is emailed to the mailing list
on the 1st of each month. This is the Cadillac of etiquette manuals.

Mailinglist moderation
Hi,
I think the time (150 messages and counting) has come to ask someone of
the CentOS team to start moderating this list. I don't mind people
discussing whatever topic they like, but not at the expense of the
mailinglist and its members.
I don't think the topic really doesn't matter in these discussions, and if
done in private they would stand for long anyway.
I would propose

Is Rails Logger Thread Safe?
Is Rails Logger truly not Thread Safe?
http://log.kares.org/2011/04/railslogger-is-not-threadsafe.html
This seems like an issue that should have been picked up quite a long time
ago. I just set config.threadsafe! in my config/application.rb and my log
output from rails server has completely disappeared.
If the logger is not thread-safe, I cannot help but wonder how much of the
Rails core is

What exactly is top posting? I thought that was when someone responds
to the very first message instead of the latest one.

Asterisk-Users List Etiquette
Friends, Romans, Countrymen, lend me your ears!
Or, in this case, your eyes.
It has become a problem I've noticed over and over again, that we tend
to think the mailing list is some sort of forum, used to post whatever
your hearts desire. This list, not unlike any other mailing list, has
a purpose. A focus if you will. Hopefully this 'document' will point
out some key things we

requireNamespace etiquette
I'm trying to resolve a problem of Namespaces and probably have misunderstood
something basic.
In my quantreg package the function crq() has as its first argument a
formula that typically contains
something like this: Surv(y, ...) ~ foo, where Surv is a function from the
survival package which
quantreg suggests. When this syntax is encountered in ordinary usage Surv
is resolved, I believe,

list etiquette
Howdy folks:
Please (I beg you, please!) don't follow the examples of a couple
of recent posters. This is very bad form. If you want to get off
the list, please don't send send a message to the list begging
other readers to help (they can't). Only you can help stamp out
forest fires (or get yourself off this list). At the top of every
message from the list is a URL that can

Cisco 7960 backlight and list etiquette?
Hi
I've taken apart a 7960 to fit a backlight to the LCD.
Would others on the list be interested in this as a project when I've finished (i.e. should I document and photo all the stages)?
Also I can source some 7960's at a very good price but what are the rules about posting this information on the list if others were interested?

A problem of etiquette
Perhaps, the question is silly. But, I prefer asking it before making a
mistake.
I have just packed a binary distribution of R for Windows3.1/Win32s.
It is equivalent to the previous one for Win95/NT (R-0.61.3 +
many of the available packages) and it is compiled with egcs-mingw32
(GPL not a commercial compiler).
Now, in preparing the README, I put the following sentence:

Email etiquette
Hello,
When replying to emails, please remove any lines of the original text you are
not replying to, especially if you are bottom-posting, to prevent people from
having to scroll through pages and pages of useless quoted text. I would
recommend people use inline replying instead of top- or bottom-posting, but as
long as your emails look tidy I'll not make an issue of that :)

*** List etiquette - digest readers
If you're reading the digest of the Asterisk-users mailing list:

- do not resend the whole digest!
* Please always change the subject so it reflects your message

List-etiquette * AGAIN *
* Please DO NOT post the same message to two lists. We have divided the lists to be
able to stay focused and lesser the burden. You are not raising the chances of getting
a reply, you are instead annoying a lot of people. Most of the people on the -dev list
are reading all other lists.
* Please move all discussions about serviceproviders and other products and services

Mailing List Etiquette
OK guys and gals ... can we please stop all the fighting?
When technical questions are asked, they should be answered. I lot of
people on this list have something that a lot of newbies need ...
experience.
So answering a question with "RTFM" or "JFGI" is not going to impart any
of your experience ... which is one of the things they need and want.
Also ... if someone attacks
