Any encoding speedups ?
Hi! I think some more speed at encoding would be very welcome. So, is there any work on faster vrobis encoders ? For x86 ( windows, linux ) platform ? Currently I use OggDrop , which uses ogg library 1.0final, on Pentium III 866 MHz and Athlon 900 MHz. -- David Balazic -------------- "Be excellent to each other." - Bill S. OGG/Vorbis DirectShow
Hi! On http://www.vorbis.com/software.psp?pid=2 ( Other Vorbis software for windows ) there is a link called "Ogg Vorbis DirectShow Filters" pointing to http://sf.net/projects/mediaxw That project is dead ! But there is another vorbis DS project at http://tobias.everwicked.com/oggds.htm , which is actively developed. How about updating the vorbis.com page to point to this DS-vorbis

One important thing
Hi. Since I'm new to this mailing list, I don't know whether this was discussed in this mailing list, or if it is already fixed. Anyway, the problem is that all audio encoders out there add a small amount of silence to the start/end of the encoded file. This is usually a small amount, around 0.03 seconds. Most of the time it goes unnoticed, BUT when you have tracks that flow into one

Minimum cpu requirements
Hello folks Anyone know if this would be enough to decode oggs? AMD Elan SC520 133 MHz If not, what seems to be the lower limit required for decoding oggs? Many thanks, Kerry. <p>--- >8 ---- List archives: http://www.xiph.org/archives/ Ogg project homepage: http://www.xiph.org/ogg/ To unsubscribe from this list, send a message to 'vorbis-request@xiph.org' containing only

DOS commandline decoder for Ogg beta4?
Help-- I've been experimenting with the encoder, using lots of different types of music, and I'm floored by great sound quality of the ogg format. Here's my problem--- I prefer not to use the Windows graphical environment for encoding or decoding, regardless of how good the program (like dbPowerAMP), but I can't find a DOS commandline decoder for converting Ogg files back to

M/S encoding ?
Hi! I'm sending this message to both lame and vorbis developers, since my concerns apply to both ( and in case of vorbis it probably applies to the more advanced ambisonic modes the X, Y and Z parts ) Recently I did some thinking about M/S encoding and wondered if the same psychoaccoustic model is applied to the S ( and M ) channel as to normal L and R channels. My concern is that different

Bitrate scaling and forward adaptive ?
I read this in the FAQ ( at www.vorbis.com, did everyone make shelters for the slashdot effect ? The Vorbis beta release is not posted yet, but is a matter of <some-time-unit>s :-) > Vorbis has bitrate scaling - a feature that lets you adjust the bitrate > of a Vorbis file or stream without reencoding; just chop the packets up > in the sizes you want them. What is Ogg Vorbis? Ogg Vorbis is a new audio compression format. It is roughly comparable to other formats used to store and play digital music, such as MP3, VQF, AAC, and other digital audio formats. It is different from these other formats because it is completely free, open, and

Hz vs bitrate?
the Vorbis FAQ says: "mid to high quality (8kHz-48.0kHz, 16+ bit, polyphonic) audio and music at fixed and variable bitrates from 16 to 128 kbps/channel." What is the difference between Hz and bitrate? Doesn't MP3 support higher bitrates? Pointers for more reading are welcome.

Ogg Vorbis DirectShow status ?
Hi! What is the status of DirectShow support (read: playy vorbis in Windows Media Player 9 or 10 ) ? The vorbis.com web pages only link to some ancient web pages (xwmedia and tobias). I remember there was a wiki page about setting this up (partially written by me), but can't find it any more. Was the idea of playing ogg/vorbis in DS applications dropped ? Regards, David

Mono wavs with b4
When I encode a monophonic wav file, I would expect the resulting ogg file to be at about half the bit rate specified on the command line, as stated in the "oggenc -h" help text: "The 6 modes are approximately 112, 128, 160, 192, 256, and 350 kbps (for stereo 44.1kHz input. Halve these numbers for mono input).". This doesn't seem to be happening, though. I took a 16-bit,

Vorbis in Windows Media Player 9, (partial) success
As I said on http://wiki.xiph.org/ClientSupport I managed to get WMP9 under Windows 2003 to work with OGG vorbis files. Requisite : OggDS 0.9.9.5 - they can be opened with the Open... dialog and WMP does not complain any more that it is an unsupported file format - they can be dragged from explorer into WMP and WMP will play them without any complaint - they can be added to the media library.

RC2 vs. beta4 (test)
Hi! I would like to share with you an interesting test result. I re-encoded a song 10 times (the 2. made from the 1., the 3. made from the 2.,... the 10. made from the 9.), with a beta4 (CVS 20010620) and with an RC2 (CVS 20010817) library version, 256 kbit/s mode, channel coupling disabled at RC2. The beta4 is very good at the 10. encoding too, but the RC2 has some interesting quality bugs. So,
