Ogg too good?
I'm just encoding some files with the latest ogg and it's
too good. I tried encoding things at q1 just to see what
happened and I couldn't hear the differencee between the
ogg and the original files.
Maybe it was the type of music I was encoding or limitations
in my listening equipment or something but it seems pointless
to have a scale from one to ten and have most of it unused.

Pre-echo like noises on Beta4
Hi, there.
Although I'm not a hacker at all, I noticed an audible noise on Beta
4 encoded files. So, I'd like to report it here.
I ripped and encoded 'A Day Without Rain' on the album with the same
name By Enya into Vorbis using Oggenc and Oggdrop Beta 4 from the Vorbis
site. (You know, she is quite an encoder-killer.) At all the bitrates,
files encoded by Oggdrop had audible

Interest in E1 channel banks?
Our company manufactures an E1 channel bank that is approved for use in
Australia (it should also be compatible with Euro standards). It is modular
and available in 10, 20 or 30 analog port configurations. Signal monitoring
and configuration is via Ethernet.
These units are manufactured in low quantities for specific telco
requirements. However if there was enough interest, we would be able to

Slightly off-topic: question about DOS batch files
Jack, thanks for your quick reply about my Comment question.
This next question is slightly off-topic, but it pertains to encoding a directory of WAV files into Oggs.
Right now I have 14 WAVs that I ripped from a CD... I made a [huge] batch file which specifies the name and track number of each WAV. Unfortunately, I have to have the entire batch file on a single line, since it's a

oggdropXPd V1.6.11c
I've tried 3 times to drop a 250kb wav file on oggdrop, and oggdrop crashes each time. Is this too large of a file for oggdrop?

Some minor refactoring of Oggdrop build environment
I performed a minor amount of refactoring of the build environment for oggdrop.
These include:
Action: Added a workspace to manage project files and dependencies
Purpose: To build all dependent libraries before attempting to build oggdrop --
               i.e. provide one-step build process.
Instead of opening "oggdrop.dsp", open "oggdrop.dsw"
Action: Added

Hi!
I made these nifty pythonscripts to make my ripping+encoding+sorting easier.
They are designed to use in Grip.
w_oggenc:
Call this instead of oggenc in Grip with the command-line:
"%A" "%d" "%t" "%a" "%n" "%y" "%G" "%i"
Now you can put additional info in the

Easier OggDrop version
Hi.
I think that the vorbis team should use this version of OggDrop RC3 as the
official OggDrop RC3, because the menu interface is easier to use (& you can
see what kind of mode you have chosen).

I don't know enough to tell if this is pilot error on the user's part or a legit problem. Advice requested (also Cc: the original user if you can).

puppetd dies?
Greetings all,
My deployment of puppet includes a monitrc to make sure that puppetd stays
up and running. It seems like (across all of my hosts) that pupeptd will
end up dying and restarted by monit. I''m running puppetd under a screen
session now on one particular host with --debug --verbose to see if any
thing comes out on console but until it happens again, any anybody else

OggDrop version ?
How can I find out the version of the OggDrop program ?
It has no version info ( no About box ) and the exe file
properties has no Version tab.
What version of the vorbis libraries is it using ?
The same goes for OggDropXP ( it is a bit better , it has
an about box with it version and compile date, but still
no info about the used ogg/vorbis libs and no Version property
for the file )

Oggdrop issue
Hello all,
When I drag the Oggdrop window and pull it around, it disappears from
my desktop - it's still visible on the tray, though.
Anybody else noticed that?
(I'm using RC2 oggdrop from vorbis.com, under Win2K SP2)

fix for oggdrop disappearing window
Hi,
I don't know if this problem has been looked at yet. The latest version of
oggdrop I found was at
http://www.vorbis.com/files/beta4/windows/oggdrop-1.0beta4.zip. If you whip
the window quickly from right to left, the client mouse coordinate in
WM_MOUSEMOVE *can* be negative and so the LOWORD and HIWORD macros will cast
the mouse coordinates to insanely high 64K-ish values. Then the

Help!!!
Hi!
I heard many things over ogg, but all what i can see is shit. O.K. The
oggdrop.exe play with me, have this tool a version number? I can't see
it. Every other tool don't run under my system (Win98; Athlon1,5GHz;
768MB RAM). For example every version of oggenc produce the error:
"OGGENC.EXE kann nicht ausgef?hrt werden"!

Corrupted OGGs (Winamp or Mac OS?)
I recently ripped a bunch of tracks to ~192 VBR OGG using OGGDROP
XPd v. 1.1 running on Win98 SE and they worked fine and sounded
great in Winamp 2.80. I then edited the tags (also with Winamp
2.80) and copied the files over to to my Mac G4 running OS 9.0.4,
where they sat untouched for about a month. Now, having copied
them back to my Win98 SE machine, they won't play in Winamp,

oggenc (small files)
I've had this problem encoding oggs where the output file is small, like
24kbytes for a 4 minute song (tested at 128 and 160kbit). I'm running
Windows 2000 and this has happened in oggenc, oggdrop, and CDEX, though I've
also been able to get good encodings with each of these. I think the only
clean encodings have been .wav's that I've made myself with SoundForge or

rollbacks
Has anyone done rollbacks with puppet?
The story goes that last night I pushed a change out, which
intentionally changed the way certain services where managed. The
change involved pushing out a few files, cronjobs, etc., which was okay
until it was discovered there was a bug with the service.
My configurations are kept in subversion and rolling back to a previous
configuration would have

oddity
Greetings,
Shouldn''t puppetd -o --ignoreschedules ... imply that splay* options are
ignored :-) If that''s not the intended behavior could we get a --run-now
that ignores splay* and schedules?
Cheers,
Ryan
