I recently ripped a bunch of tracks to ~192 VBR OGG using OGGDROP XPd v. 1.1 running on Win98 SE and they worked fine and sounded great in Winamp 2.80. I then edited the tags (also with Winamp 2.80) and copied the files over to to my Mac G4 running OS 9.0.4, where they sat untouched for about a month. Now, having copied them back to my Win98 SE machine, they won't play in Winamp, and--attempting to convert back to WAV--OGGDROP says they're corrupted. Does this sound familiar to anyone? Any suggestions on diagnosing/recovering the OGGs? I saw the thread in the list archives about the tagging bug in Winamp 2.77, but I thought the bug had been fixed in later Winamp versions, so I'm stumped. --- >8 ---- List archives: http://www.xiph.org/archives/ Ogg project homepage: http://www.xiph.org/ogg/ To unsubscribe from this list, send a message to 'vorbis-request@xiph.org' containing only the word 'unsubscribe' in the body. All files in MacOS have both a resource fork and a data fork. Windows 98 doesn't use 'fork's, a file is just a data stream. Depending on the transfer software you used, copying back and forth may have added garbage to the beginning of your vorbis files. Try searching the internet for a tool to repair this sort of damage. This is just a wild guess. I might be way off base here. Otherwise, I suppose Peter's suggestion is the most likely cause. Are those .ogg files still on your Mac, and can you copy them again? It might actually be a good idea to use a platform independend transfer protocol like FTP (in binary mode, of course ;) ), to get rid of those oddities - a friend of mine, who uses a Mac once gave me an .ogg file via FTP and I had no problems with it whatsoever. <p>Moritz --- >8 ---- List archives: http://www.xiph.org/archives/ Ogg project homepage: http://www.xiph.org/ogg/ To unsubscribe from this list, send a message to 'vorbis-request@xiph.org' containing only the word 'unsubscribe' in the body. Adding ID3 tags could confuse things? Macs have a habit of adding 128 bytes to the start of files. This would be easy to spot if you have a file dump utility. Look for the OGG header 128 bytes into the file. If you used FTP then you might have used ASCII mode, if you did then you're buggered. Just delete the files and be done with it. <p><p>--- >8 ---- List archives: http://www.xiph.org/archives/ Ogg project homepage: http://www.xiph.org/ogg/ To unsubscribe from this list, send a message to 'vorbis-request@xiph.org' containing only the word 'unsubscribe' in the body.
