Broken mail list web archive
Hi! The page http://www.xiph.org/archives/vorbis/masterindex.html links to http://www.xiph.org/archives/vorbis/date.html , whic gives a 404 error ( not found ). Just like last time ( begin of november ), when I reported it just like now. And I was ignored, just like now (?). -- David Balazic -------------- "Be excellent to each other." - Bill S. Ogg Vorbis DirectShow status ?
Hi! What is the status of DirectShow support (read: playy vorbis in Windows Media Player 9 or 10 ) ? The vorbis.com web pages only link to some ancient web pages (xwmedia and tobias). I remember there was a wiki page about setting this up (partially written by me), but can't find it any more. Was the idea of playing ogg/vorbis in DS applications dropped ? Regards, David

Vorbis in Windows Media Player 9, (partial) success
As I said on http://wiki.xiph.org/ClientSupport I managed to get WMP9 under Windows 2003 to work with OGG vorbis files. Requisite : OggDS 0.9.9.5 - they can be opened with the Open... dialog and WMP does not complain any more that it is an unsupported file format - they can be dragged from explorer into WMP and WMP will play them without any complaint - they can be added to the media library.

Any encoding speedups ?
Hi! I think some more speed at encoding would be very welcome. So, is there any work on faster vrobis encoders ? For x86 ( windows, linux ) platform ? Currently I use OggDrop , which uses ogg library 1.0final, on Pentium III 866 MHz and Athlon 900 MHz. -- David Balazic -------------- "Be excellent to each other." - Bill S. [Fwd: Re: File formats (RE: MP4 Player Available for Download)]
I recall reading that all MPEG AAC software has different and incompatible file formats , because this is a condition set by the MPEG AAC technology licensing authority. Some kind of yet-another-anti-piracy-measure, the idea probably being that users of different software can not swap their files. I picked up this a while ago when following AAC software development, but can't remember exactly

burning oggs to audiocd
Dirk Scheuer himself (info@realmusic.de) wrote : > > does any ogg-plugin exist for nero's new plugin system ? > > Don't know, but... Why on earth does every software author "invent" his own plugin system ? The Direct/Active-Show/X/Movie subsystem in windows can deal with all existing file formats both for reading and writing. Only one ogg/vorbis plugin would have

I am resending this ( for the third time, mispelled vorbis-dev-@xiph.org ), because the last time it didn't make it ( it didn't appear on the web archive at www.xiph.org , the archive of vorbis-list for the current month is broken BTW ) -------- Original Message -------- Subject: Re: [vorbis-dev] WAVE loader for oggenc and oggdrop Date: Wed, 01 Aug 2001 13:44:47 +0200 From: David Balazic

listening conditions
Hi! What are the assumed listening conditions in vorbis ? For example there are big differences in perceived sound when listening with headphones compared to listening with speakers. ( "super stereo effect" , different frequency response due to HRTF etc ... ). Is this stuff worth considering in a vorbis class encoder ? David Balazic --- >8 ---- List archives:

The licensing issue is still a mess, although they hope to make it at least coherent "real soon now". Use at your own risk. BTW, there is no MP4. The equivalent audio codec is the Dolby AAC. another cool use for the vorbis direct show filter
Hi. My name is Lorenzo Prince. I am new to the list, but have been an Ogg Vorbis user for about 6 months now. I am extremely impressed with the quality of the format at all bitrates, and it has become my format of choice for encoding my entire music collection. Well, I just thought everyone might like to know that I have found a possibly undocumented use for the Ogg Vorbis direct show filter.
