a change in rpcclient from 2.2.2 to 2.2.3a
Samba version 2.2.3a doesn't seem to work with the "cupsaddsmb" program
available in CUPS... cupsaddsmb merely runs a few rpcclient commands.
The verbose output from cupsaddsmb is printed below. This output is
from cups version 1.1.14, but I received the same error from version
1.1.12. On 2 different computers - both clean installs. When run on
Samba version 2.2.2, the command

unexpected.tdb
I have been using samba 2.2.2 for quit awhile running with security= share
in my company. I looked into the /var/lock/samba and found a growing file
unexpected.tdb. Is there a way to trim it down while samba is running or do
I have to start and stop samba?
Is this an expected behavior?

Problems with samba 2.2.4
Dear Sirs.
I have here running samba 2.2.4 compiled on Redhat 7.2 with kernel 2.4.17
with ACL support on EXT3 (http://acl.bestbits.at) and winbindd.
Winbind works. I can ssh as a NT4 user and use samba network shares as a NT
user without username mapping. (no German special characters, no spaces in
user name).

In smb.conf

Win2k Printer Woes Continue
I installed the printer patch on 2.2.4 on my Linux 7.3 box, reconfigured
it (I think I did things in the correct order:configure, make
realclean,run patch,configure,make,sh.makerpms.sh), created a new rpm,
uninstalled the old samba, reinstalled the new rpm, fixed the conf
files, reloaded samba and now my printers appear as "HPLASERJET on
_smbserver". HPLASERJET is queue name which is

How well does printing support scale in Samba 2.2.x ?
Hi,
I'm working on a printing project consolidating a bunch of NT machines with
a Solaris printing machine. I'm concerned about the scalability if I increase
the number of printers from say 20 too 300. How does it effect the response
time for looking up and changing device setting etc.
Thanks

WinBind does not work well with Rational ClearCase ( bug fix attached :)
Gerald,
No worries.
This patch is required if your using Rational ClearCase and you don't want
everyone to have access to it. It's to fix a brokenness (IMO) within
ClearCase, and maybe other programs. Our windows primary group has 10k+
users...
I will shoot it off to Rational, so they can provide it to there customers.
I was hoping it could be applied to the main tree so I could just

Samba authenication to Window Active Directory
Has any version of Samba been tested for compatibility with the new Windows Active Directory?
We will be upgrading our NT domain to 2000 and creating Active Directory.
Currently our solaris samba 2.0.7 server is configured to authenicate users from our NT domain controllers. Will we encounter problems with the 2000 upgrade?
Thanks in advance, Cynthia

roaming cache and nt acl support
Howdy!
Got a wierd one here....
on 2.2.1a with "nt acl support = yes" I do not seem to have any
problems...
however, when I do 2.2.2, I get issues with deleting roaming cache in
Windows 2000/SP2 on logoff...but, when I set "nt acl support =
no" everything is way cool.
now on 2.2.3a it does the same thing and on 2.2.4-pre also does the same
thing.
The issue with this is it

Samba developers - Printing/driver downloading

location and other settings - what file are these settings stored in?
Second: Thank you Samba developers!
I've been working off and on for two days to make printer driver
downloading available to my NT Workstations and all the little details that
make such a thing happen. Reading the HTML printer driver doc from the

winbindd not working - linux s/390
Hello all,
i'm testing 2.2.4.
it seems winbindd is not working on our system (linux Suse 7.3 s/390)
the config is exactly the same as with 2.2.3a, which worked fine.
from a windows client i can connect to the samba server, and see the shares.
but, once i want to connect to a share, it asks me for a password and won't
accept the correct one. It looks as if winbindd stops working then.

How are people managing startup/shutdown of winbindd?
Greetings,
I realize many people will never use winbindd, and thus it will likely not
get included in /etc/init.d/samba (on my Debian system; your file may vary)
by default, so another solution seems in order.
It's not as important to be able to start and stop winbindd now that it's
getting more robust, but I'd still like something.
How are y'all out there in Samba land

Latest versions of Solaris SPARC binaries
I was looking for the latest version of samba 2.2.5-1 for SPARC, Solaris 2.8
if possible. I only see version 2.2.2. on the mirrors and I know I
downloaded a packaged version of 2.2.4 awhile back, was this removed due to
technical issues or does anyone know of a place to get a 2.2.5 package?
Thanks!

smb print server tries to connect back to client?
I have encountered a bizarre problem upon moving from Samba 2.2.2 to 2.2.4
on our local print server.
When a client tries to map a printer, the server does a DNS lookup on the
netbios name of the client, and tries to contact that IP address. This can
fail in situations where the client's netbios and DNS names don't match,
as in a wireless network user. The failure doesn't prevent

Unable to validate owner sid.
I am trying to run Samba 2.2.4 on solaris 2.8 with W2K clients. I have an NT
app installed onto the Solaris 8 server which i would like to run off of the
mapped samba network drive. When i try to start the NT app it attempts to
read a file on the samba drive called .root.passwords but fails (This file
can be accessed with notepad). The following is an extract from the samba

NT accounts lockup up
Hello,
I've just spent the last two days sifting through the archives of this
mailing list and although I found one or two references to my problem
I've been unable to find the solution.
I'm running Samba 2.0.4b on two machines:
E3000/Solaris 2.5.1
E3500/Solaris 2.6
My clients are running under NT4.0 .
I'm using the mode security = server.
Everything works fine most of the
