rxfax/spandsp fails to decode
Hi,
I just sent this to Steve Underwood, but then found a bunch of posts on the
mailing list about similar issues.. does anyone have the fix?
I'm running asterisk CVS-HEAD-06/28/04-18:13:13, spandsp 0.0.1k, libtif 3.5.7
one thing i just noticed is that calls come in with format '72' which is
G711A-law or LinearPCM.. it uses PCM for the call, i assume this is ok

fax still fails, ideas sought! Re: rxfax/spa ndsp fails to decode
Sorry to bore you more with the clock issue, but have you check
/proc/zaptel/<span> to make sure it's not missing interrupts?
There's also an option to record the audio for the fax, you could listen to
that vs a recorded file that will receive correctly on a fax machine and see
whether there is an obvious difference? (Good luck, that'll be really
scraping the barrel!!)

spandsp rxfax crashes *
Rxfax answers, makes handshake, and crashes once the page starts to send. It
receives a .tif file of 8 bytes.

spandsp and certain (e.g. Canon) fax machines
Hi,
Several people have reported problems sending faxes from spandsp-0.0.1k
to Canon FAX machines. A spandsp user had the same problem with another
make of FAX machine, and traced the problem to a bug in the file t30.c
of spandsp. Line 542 says s->t4.rx_file[0] where it should say
s->t4.tx_file[0]. This fixes his problem, and I suspect it will also fix
the Canon fax machine problem.

rxfax problem
Hello,
I tryed out spandsp with libtiff-3.5.7 and with Asterisk from CVS.
I tryed to receive a fax on a CAPI channel. Finally I got a file with
8 byte length (/tmp/testfax.tif).
How can I do next?
Thanks in advance,
        Thomas
ps: what are hardware requirements for sending/receiving faxes?

RxFax
I am also having problems receiving my first fax. I get a 320byte file (for a
4 page fax). If I look a the tiff generated, is just has some few dots.
I am sending the fax from a notebook with Windows XP to an X100P and using
libtiff v3.5.7.
Has anyone successfully received faxes ?

Software FAX Modem--One Last Request For Help
Here's one last plea for help from the list before I give up on the totally
cool software FAX modem concept in complete despair (for now, at least,
until I have more time to dig into it)....
I am simply not able to successfully receive a FAX no matter what device I
transmit from or how I bring the call into Asterisk. My lastest effort was
a call from a Pitney-Bowes FAX machine into an X100P

rxfax crashing asterisk and YES I'm using an approved libtiff :-)
I'm running asterisk CVS HEAD from 20040601 with spandsp 0.0.1k and libtiff
3.6.0 (no other copies are installed).
I've put the audio files up at
http://www.mixdown.ca/~andrew/dump/akohlsmith-faxsegfault.tgz -- the machine
I am faxing from is a Canon IR3300 printer/copier/fax, but I get similar
crashes from $29.95 fax machines too. :-)
I'm trying to get a decent backtrace but

RxFAX generates no tiff file
Hi,
I am trying to receive a fax with the spandsp library.
The sending fax says "success" but there is no tiff file generated.
I use "exten => 7000,1,rxfax(/tmp/testfax.tif)" in my extensions.conf.
The connection is via SIP/G.711 as I have read on the list that this
can sometimes work (I know Fax over IP is troublesome without T.38).
I think the transmission should not

RxFax - Fast carrier training failed
I'm trying to send a fax to my asterisk box, however shortly after
connecting the fax machine reports a "communication error" and hangs up.
Below is the error I get from RxFax: Fast carrier training failed
Nothing is written to the file system as far as the tiff is concerned.
Any ideas on how to fix this? Thanks

A software FAX modem
Hi all,
I would like to announce the availability of an initial test version of
a totally software FAX facility, suitable for use with Asterisk. This is
a first public test release, so don't expect a solid polished product
just yet. People have shown interest in what I am doing, and here is the
evidence that it is not vapourware.
If the notion of a software FAX machine is new to you,

scandsp, voicetronix and rxfx
Hi all,
Trying to get fax reception going using a voicetronix openline4 card,
however, there are two issues (as far as I can see)
(1) Currently the voicetronix world (cards, firmware, drivers, channel
prog etc.) does not do fax tone detection. I have spoken to the
voicetronix guys , understand what has to happen there and may do some
hacking if I can resolve the second issue. Meanwhile, I

fax still fails, ideas sought! Re: rxfax/spa ndsp fails to decode
On the /proc/zaptel it was lost interrupts, you haven't got any so that's
good!
On opencall.org there's a known issues link and that mentions some fax
machines that have issues, might be worth a quick check there.
I can receive from our fax machine this end, if you'd like I'll send you a
test fax if you send me your fax number, if you can receive from us and tpc

FAX application does not work for me....
Hi,
I have tried to install and configure the FAX app using the steps described
in several mails on this list.
When a FAX call arrives on X100P, the fax extension is executed, which looks
like:
exten => fax,1,RxFax(/var/spool/asterisk/incoming/${CALLERIDNUM}.tif)
exten => fax,2,Hangup
It tries to negociate, but nothing is received at the end and the other part
times out.
