Cisco Support for 7940, Is this Right?
Hi all, Happy Wednesday! Got a 7940G off eBay to tinker with and, per the wiki, contacted Cisco about a service contract. Being just little ol' me, they won't deal directly and blew me off (I hate dealing with Cisco, Nortel, etc as a small-business person...) Again per the wiki, I hit CDW.com and found CON-SNT-CP7960 for $9.14. Looking for support for the 7940 (not 7960), I just

Cisco 7940G licensing with asterisk
Hi there, In Cisco web site http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/phones/ps379/products_data_sheet09186a008008884a.html It says that regardless of the technology used you have to buy a licencse. Does the license apply to use the phone with asterisk, or, can i just buy the phone? Also, the phone does not requiere to use an AC adapter if used with PoE injectors/switches. Can non-Cisco PoE

Cisco 79xx series IP phones
Shawn, That's a complete load of manure. I have an office full of 7960's, they work great with asterisk with the SIP images loaded. I'm about to pick up a lot of 7912's (simple one line phones, same as the 7905 but it has a built in switch). These phones have also been confirmed to work with Asterisk. I would recommend not going directly to cisco, and just find a reseller who

SIP Firmware for Cisco Phones
Just a quick note to people looking for SIP firmware images for Cisco phones: To access these files from Cisco's website, you need to have a Service Contract (SmartNet) on at least on of your phones. I though a contract was several hundred dollars, but it is way cheaper! Their lowest level, 1 year Next Business Day 8x5 SmartNet program, costs around $70.00, and gives you unlimited access to

Cisco 7960 SIP Images
What you and so may others on this lise seem to forget is that Cisco is a company offering bsuiness products for businesses. Businesses typically pay by check and wire transfer, especially for items such as this. If you want home-user pay-by-credit-card service, buy products from Belkin's home line and similar. Oh...what's that? None of these cheesy Stocked-at-Costco hardware

Do I need a CH1 licence for Cisco Phones ?
I've got a question regarding Cisco IP Phones and licencing. When using a third party PBX like asterisk is a licence required for the Cisco phones ? Has anyone got anything in writing from Cisco to clarify this ? Eg can I just use CP-7961G or do I need CP-7961G-CH1 even though I'm not using Cisco Callmanager ? HYPERLINK

Cisco 7905/7912 SIP image location (on Cisco's site)
Hello all, I feel dumb asking this, but does anyone have a link to the SIP firmware for the 7912 on Cisco's site? I have a SmartNet contract, but I just can't find the link (you can search for "7960 sip firmware" and find that fast). Thanks for the help, Jeb Campbell jebc@c4solutions.net

Cisco 7920 Image
Does anyone know if there is a Smartnet contract or whatnot available from Cisco for access to the latest 7920 images? I've got one w/ asterisk that is exhibiting a few of the documented bugs running 1.0.3 (1.0.7 is the latest IIRC). Thanks! -- /* Ian A. Polycom vs. Cisco IP Phones
Hi all, I am working on building a new VoIP PBX. Looking at the current market for phones it seems my best "enterprise" options are the Cisco and Polycom phones. I have some experiance with the Cisco 7940G, but the process of flashing the phone with the SIP firmware left a bad taste in my mouth (not to mention the added expense for the phone). What is the general consensis about

Cisco 7940/7960 SIP functionality questions
Hello, I'm considering using Asterisk with some type of Cisco phone, and currently considering either the 7940 or 7960 because of its more-complete functionality (compared to the 7905). I'm currently wondering: Do all the expected functions (transfer, conference, voice mail, message waiting indicator, etc.) work normally with Asterisk over SIP? What caveats are known about using

Cisco 76XX - How to ignore a call (silence ring)
I am preparing to setup a system using Cisco 7940 and 7960's I have the 7.1 SIP firmware on them. One issue I have run into is how to silence the ringer if a call comes in and you don't want to take it. Many phones have a DND button. I know the 79XX has the DND in the menu but it is to cumbersome to go into the settings then phone preferences then the DND and select yes. Is there any other
