Hello, I''ve checked the FAQ, and it tells that there is a GUI interface , does that applis to version 1.4 as well as version 2.0 Sorry if it is a silly question, but just wanted to be sure Kind Regards Samer _________________________________________________________________ Express yourself instantly with MSN Messenger! The GUI is a webmin module, take a look at www.webmin.com But be warned: This webmin module is far behind the shorewall development, so it doesn''t offer the full feature set of shorewall. Probably it even doesn''t work correctly with newer shorewalls, but I haven''t testet it myself. Honestly I believe that you should do the configuration by hand instead of using this module. Honestly I believe that you should do the > configuration by hand instead of using this module.I install webmin on all the shorewall firewalls I build -- mainly because it raises the comfort level of managers and windozers. It is OK for little things like changing the target of a DNAT rule but the major setup should be done at the text file level. There are some dangers in using the webmin module since it could damage some configurations in shorewall 2.0.x. I think the Webmin module could be a very good interface to shorewall but it doesn''t have a ''full time'' maintainer. AFAIK it is just one of many modules that Jamie Cameron maintains and, judging from the mailing list, it is not in the top ten modules he get change requests for. I''m trying to convince my boss that it would be in his interest to include some development on it in my regular work assignments :-)> Alex > > samer Y. I already have had to do some major re-working of the existing webmin module for a company project so I''m moderately familiar with its internals. -Gary

If we could ever get the Webmin module completely up to date, then assuming that it was actively maintained, I would be willing to adjust my release schedule to ensure that Webmin was in sync with my code. -Tom -- Tom Eastep \ Off-list replies are cheerfully ignored Shoreline, \ http://shorewall.net Washington USA \ teastep@shorewall.net PGP Public Key \ https://lists.shorewall.net/teastep.pgp.key

He should know about everyone who is interested in and willing to help on the webmin module. Coordinating the coders and accepting co-maintainers (if applicable) is up to him. karsten -- Davision - Atelier fuer Gestaltung / Internet / Multimedia UNIX / Linux Netzwerke und Schulungen Telefon 06151/273859 Fax 06151/273862
I''ve now had three people contact me with some interest in working on this project. I''m going to talk to my boss and see if he''ll let me host a box on our network so we can have a CVS server. Assuming that goes forward, I''ll maintain the box, and contribute to the code if Stephen or someone else with a bit more development experience will head up the project. We can then coordinate our releases with Tom which will, ideally, end up taking a lot of annoying load off his shoulders.
Would it not be better to host the project on an open source management site, such as sourceforge. At first, when we''re just working on an initial release of the forked code, it may not be any more or less valuable to have it on sourceforge. If the project becomes bigger and more people contribute, then yes, Sourceforge would probably be a great idea. Anyone have a viewpoint on this?
What you would get would be the entire infrastructure of a project, that you would not need to spend time on setting up. CVS, mail lists, release management, access control, etc, all take time to setup. That would allow you more time to actually spend on development of the module. just my 2 bits.
