Vorbisgain in OggDropPXd
Hi (hope I am in the right mailing list!) I really can't figure out how to use Vorbisgain in OggdropXPd - it doesn't seem to work so far. Can Someone pls. explain detailed (steps) what to do when using Vorbisgain in OggdropXPd? I understand the settings for Vorbisgain are in "decoding options"... why? What I really want is the function of Mp3Gain on Ogg-files, and I th...

(Un)Usefulness of Vorbisgain?
I've just Replaygained several of my Vorbis albums with Vorbisgain, ranging from 80's metal to present day soft rock. What I don't understand is why does Vorbisgain actually make all tracks QUIETER? I see an average of -7db on most albums. And after that, not only are they substantially quieter than my MP3s (which is a pain), but it also fails to really &q...

Vorbisgain in ogg123
I'm considering patching my copy of ogg123 to support vorbisgain tags. Is there any interest in folding this sort of patch into the main line ogg123? Has anyone done this already (or to another command line ogg player)? Is Vorbis prone to clipping?
Hi, with the Lame MP3 encoder I reduce the amplitude of the input signal prior to encoding with the --scale option to prevent clipping that can be introduced due to resampling errors. Is Vorbis prone to this sort of clipping? <p>Headless --- >8 ---- List archives: http://www.xiph.org/archives/ Ogg project homepage: http://www.xiph.org/ogg/ To unsubscribe from this list, send a

ogg: another tag?
I've learned that I can make a tag with vorbisgain that tells the player at what volume a track is to be played to achieve a certain level of loudness. Is it possible that there will be a tag that tells the player for instance to add more bass when it plays a track? Ore more treble? With such tags it would be possible to customize the sound of a...

Extension to libvorbis for lossless volume changes
...tive adjustment for each channel. The trick is quite simple. I adjust the first 2 floor values for each channel if they are nonzero. Of course, it only works with floor type 1 and returns an error with floor 0. But I have never seen any files with floor 0. It is quite straight forward to extend vorbisgain with this function to modify the gain values to fit the loudness coarsely. Is there any interest to add this function to the libvorbis code? And if so, how to do this? Marcel

normalising vorbis
...vorbis, and as such have no access to the original. Upon listening, I found the volume to be quite quiet and I am wondering if there exists a native vorbis normaliser, so I don't have to decompress to wave, normalise and recompress. Does anybody know of such a beast? I'm aware of vorbisgain, but I'd like to change the compressed data, not apply a gain afterwards. New xmms vorbis plugin
..., and help. Yes, help. You can look up the title string documentation while you fill it out. Imagine... I'm working on a new fileinfo dialog which will be entirely focused on making vorbis comment editing not suck, but it's taking a while, and I've been busy. After that, I might add vorbisgain analysis support, if I get around to turning the vorbisgain analyser into a library. And there are a few things relating to chained logical streams that I'd like to tinker with. Ulitmately, though, it would be very cool to turn the plugin into a general ogg plugin that can handle whatever b...

Simple OGG editing without re-encoding?
I have some OGG files which would benefit from the following simple corrections: a) removing left channel (which is empty) and changing right channel to the mono channel (mono sound stereo-recorded by mistake) b) volume change Of course I can open the files in audacity and do those corrections but that would require re-encoding. And I am afraid that it will result in additional loss of the

Volume changing à la MP3Gain?
Hullo, There's a program called mp3gain which can be used to alter the volume of an MP3 file in 1.5 dB steps. I once heard somewhere (I can't remember *where*, but I swear) that something similar is possible with Vorbis files, but in approximately 2.2 dB steps. Is this true, or is my memory at fault? If it's possible to change the volume of a Vorbis 1.0 file, could someone please

format question
Hi, I am thinking about making a small tool. After reading about patents and mp3 I choose another format. OGG seems best. I was wondering if I can edit the OGG files and adjust the volume, to create a Fade-in and Fade-out. The tool I need makes configurable timed fade-ins and fade-outs of the volume of my OGG files. And if someone knows good python libaries for OGG I would like to hear

wav/raw normalization
Hey all. I was an "early" adopter of mp3 (1994-1995), and I took great pains to use digital audio extractors and avoid jitter and whatnot thru proper hardware - back then, this was no mean feat. Well, I'm starting to switch to Ogg (dragging out all the CD's, starting over) and I want to know if anyone has an informed opinion on the merits or demerits of "normalization"

Replaygain backend and ogg123 patch
...le area isn't up and working just yet. It applies album and track gain values as scale factors to float pcm and includes an arbitary value preamp, a couple of limiting strategies. There's also helper function to pull the replaygain values from the vorbiscomment blocks, as calculated by vorbisgain. It also includes some more exotic features, such as the ability to change gain types and the preamp value on the fly, and the ability to make smooth transitions between these new user settings (ok, I got a bit carried away, there, but you get fade functions for free). A demonstration patch agai...

Bug Report. Replay-gain and ogg.
...When I encoded my flac files (the majority a year ago) I used replay gain to save the album and track information if the flac file. Unfortunately, the I audio doesnt like the replay gain headers (I'm submitting a bug report over there to get this fixed). So, my only option right now is to use vorbisgain to strip the replay info out of the ogg file thats generated when i use oggenc to cross code from flac to ogg vorbis (oggenc correctly transfers the replay gain tags over to the ogg file... and vorbis gain can strip them out of the ogg file). I played with vorbis gain a bit and realized that I sav...

[ogg-dev] comment writing in opus / liboggz
...ling (tool interface itself, and handling for things like album art, comment header in general) that it'd be nice to keep consistent between different tools and not have to duplicate. Also R128 gain calculation as mentioned by Timothy Terriberry, for Vorbis I've tended to use the standalone VorbisGain tool (not familiar with the differences between R128 and ReplayGain). Liboggz is a nice place for such generalised stuff, but its tools aren't often included in standard installs (in Linux distros anyway), even if opus tools or vorbis tools are. I don't know whether Xiph really wants to ge...
