sound quality

never encodes same twice?
...I've encoded using these utils has a bitrate 2 bits lower than the same track encoded in Windows 95. Why is this? Is there some way to find out whether my compiler (gcc 2.95.3) is creating degenerate ogg files, reminiscent of the recent RedHat compiler bug posted on vorbis.com? -- Karol Pietrzak PGP KeyID: 3A1446A0 --- >8 ---- List archives: http://www.xiph.org/archives/ Ogg project homepage: http://www.xiph.org/ogg/ To unsubscribe from this list, send a message to 'vorbis-request@xiph.org' containing only the word 'unsubscribe' in the body. TwinVQ versus The World
...nVQ. I encoded a few tracks with TwinVQ and they sounded like shit, but does anyone still consider TwinVQ a serious competitor in the compressed audio market? Is it possible to Xenify a stock Redhat/Fedora kernel.
I would have sworn that someone on the list had a way to Xenify a stock RH kernel but I was not able to dig it up on the archives. If this does not exist I am sure it would be a nice addition to Xen to be able to patch and build some kernels that are compatable with some of the popular distributions. -- Alvin Starr || voice: (416)585-9971 Interlink Connectivity ||

sound quality / size
...6kb/s and oggvorbis beta4 ~100kb/s are virtually identical. however, once twinhq is dropped down to 80kb/s, all hell breaks loss and they sound shot-to-shit. they hardly compare to 50kb/s OggVorbis files. Scheduled Ogg streams for testing
Well we're testing scheduled Ogg streaming, but it would be nice to test with an audience bigger then me and a few irc users, so I thought I'd drop a note to the list. http://support.bbc.co.uk/oggstreams.shtml This will contain any scheduled tests to come and anything currently being streamed. For scheduled stuff, only things we're given permission to do by producers can go on
