Samba Masters: I installed SP4 on a NT 4.0 workstation and now it cannot connect to any samba shares. I reran the NT4_PlainPassword.reg script but that did not fix the problem. Your suggestions / flames would be appreciated. I get a: "this account is not authorized to login from this station" message when I try to "Map Network Drive" from NT4server SP4 to my RH Linux 6.0 Samba 2.0.3, yet I can open a telnet session from the NT machine to Linux using this user, and, in a linux xterm window I can list the samba services using

Windows NT 4.0 SP3
I have Samba 1.9.17p2 and it works great on NT4.0 SP2 When I update to NT4.0SP3, my Samba connection gives me the following message: The account is not authorized to login from this station. Did something change? Maybe NT4.0 SP3 uses a smb.conf option that wasn't used before? I've installed the package version from the Solaris 2.5 web site. I'm actually running Solaris 2.5.1

[SOLVED] Win NT 4.0 SP4 access to Samba 1.9.16p9
...ur computers. Thanks to Herb Lewis & Jan Ole Kastens for pointing me in the right direction. Turns out I needed to enable plain text passwords on my NT 4.0 SP4 system, as by default, it was using encrypted passwords. The following web page had the solution: http://us1.samba.org/samba/ftp/docs/NT4_PlainPassword.reg After importing that registry file, everything works great! I love Samba and this list... "not authorized to login" and libpam-mysql
Hi all, I get the error message "not authorized to login from this station". This is not fixed as suggested in past posts (encrypt = no, NT4_plainpassword.reg). I have libpam-mysql installed. And it never even gets called for authentication from the NT machine! If I connect from the local PC with smbclient //server/share password -U user I get the following in syslog (I turned on debugging and added the "I'm being called" syslog entr...

run prog to create policy? + our setup
Hi Is it possible to give users a different policy? If it's not possible by default, can I do it with preexec? Wasn't there an option to let a file contain the output of a program, and each time it is read, the output is piped instead of contents of a file? Because I think that would be safer, than a preexec that replaces my policy file, because when other users log in at exactly the same

Problem with Samba: "The account is not authorized to login from this station"
I am having a problem configuring Samba to work with my NT mahcines. I can see the linux server from my NT machines. Under security=user, when I attempt to browse the linux machine's shares, it asks for a username and password, and then fails, telling me "The account is not authorized to login from this station." If I set security = share, I can browse the shares, but when I try and

browser problem
The browsing capability in Network Neighborhood disppears periodically. Usually, double-clicking on Network Neighborhood gives us a list of all the NT and Unix/samba boxes on the network segment (i.e. in the Workgroup). When browsing disppears, all we see is *Entire Network*, which has nothing in it. We run a unix/NT network with 6 unix servers and about 80 NT clients. We are running NT

NT Crashes when doing large network file Xfers (was Re: NT crashes during smbtar)
Ernie, Thanks for the great info.. Based on what you were seeing, would you suspect that part of the problem is with the combination of NT and the 3com card (3c595)? Currently, we are ONLY seeing this under NT Workstation (not server) and almost all of our machines have this same 3com 3c595 card (only if using 100BaseT).. -- Rick -----Original Message----- From: Ernie Oporto

smbmount problem
Hello. I hope that this is the proper place to ask this. Here is my problem. I have several smbmounts under Red Hat Linux 5.1. They need to be accessed by my apache web server. One of the mounts keeps getting disconnected, but this is not noticed by Linux. So the Linux box thinks that the files under the smbmount are still accessable when they aren't actually mounted. What would be the best

SMBFS stack overflow?
Sorry about the previous message... Note that the maintainer listed in MAINTAINERS is no longer active, so perhaps it should be updated? I've found a problem with SMBFS and *really* long pathnames. It causes the kernel to OOPS, and sometimes corrupts the kernel stack. I've even had it corrupt the SLAB allocator so bad that no binary could be run :) REPORTING-BUGS format answers, let
