While I empathize with your predicament, I generally prefer not to have expletives in my inbox. Also, what has this to do with markdown? quartz() on MAC OSX
I am (desperately) trying to get used to using a Mac here at my new location. (Why *anyone* would ever use anything other than Linux, except under duress as I am, totally escapes me, but that's another story.) Fortunately much of the Mac OSX is actually Unix, so a civilized person can manage to carry on ... But there are some things. (Like this <expletive deleted> mailer ... But

You could even do library(rgdal) | But sad to say, it

Printer: User Intervention Required - Use Printer Offline
For some reason, I cannot get samba (or Win98, depending on how you look at it...) to allow a win98 client to print. I search the list archives, but I didn't find anything similar. So here goes. Symptoms: - Win98 client can access fileshares OK. The printers show up OK as well in network neighbourhood. - On Linux, printing (lprng) works OK. - In win98, e.g. dir >

How do I run windows version of virtual boy advance on mac?
I'd very much appreciate a step-by-step guide of some sort from instillation to end, from someone who's installed the windows version on their mac themselves, in the easiest, simplest, noob friendly way possible. I'm not going to lie at this point I'm an highly fucking annoyed. I've tried almost everything bootcamp, crossover, wine, etc....and nothing fucking works. I've

[PS] Two Way ANOVA
Ben, I would like to test the sulfur on the clover field, nitrogen on the clover field and then test for the presence of interaction. Sorry about the last email, seems it really screwed itself over, here it is again, hopefully nicer: Nitrogen(0) Nitrogen(20) Sulfur(0) 4.54 5.73 Sulfur(3) 4.64

Flummoxed by gsub().
I have a vector (say "x") of the form [1] "mung5" "mung10" "mung20" "gorp5" "gorp10" "gorp20" I want to extract just the numbers (strings of digits) that appear at the end of the strings in "x". My reading of ?regex led me to believe that gsub("[:alpha:]","",x) should give the

Problem with R CMD check and the inconsolata font business.
I have just installed R version 2.14.0 and tried to re-build and re-check some of the packages that I maintain. I'm getting a warning (in the process of running R CMD check on my "deldir" package): > * checking PDF version of manual ... Stupid question about IE and WINE
Hi All, Lamentably, I now have a legitimate need to run Internet Explorer on one of my nice Linux boxes. (It has to do with web design, the fact that many people still use IE, and the need to have a site that work with many browsers and not just the ones that adhere to the official standards.) Up to this point I've managed to happily run many computers for years without ever dealing with

Creating function name from variables..
I have a situation where I have a number of fields and a rating for the field. So, in a DRY way, this works fine: <%= [''abc'', ''def'', ''klm''].each do |e| %> <tr><td><%= @result[e] %></td> <td> <%= @result[e+''rating''] %></td> </tr> <% end %> Now, I

[Flac-users] CD archiving
I have been following flac development for some time now, but with the release of 1.0.4 I thought I would finally start the task of encoding my entire cd collection into flac format. After looking through the list archives and the webpage I still have a few unanswered questions. 1. What is the best method tagging method to use? Josh mentioned that id3v1 was preferred over id3v2 since it

How to rid yourself of Broadvoice
...9;re having problems cancelling your Broadvoice service like I was simply do the following: 1) Dial 1-978-418-7300 (don't block your caller ID/CPN). 2) Announce your displeasure with the service to their voicemail (it should tell you something that you have to leave voicemail to get support). Expletives will reduce the waiting in step 3 from 10 minutes to 5 minutes. 3) Wait 10 minutes and your phone will ring with a Broadvoice representative ready to receive your appreciation for being a great company. After two months of no service, dozens of e-mails and phone calls, and canned "we don'...
