I was highly respecting OpenBSD project, especially for their openssh. After scandal with OpenBSD IPSEC stack backdoor accusations, my respect faded grossly, and I felt extremely happy my choice of system for servers fell on FreeBSD, not OpenBSD (for some independent reason)... RFC: Improving license & patent issues in the LLVM community
...dia.org/wiki/Sui_generis_database_right). Referring to Clang source to ascertain certain facts wouldn't necessarily put any requirement on the licensing of the code you later produce. However for safety many might prefer not to look at the source so that any incidental similarities can't be accused of being due to copying code directly. If you're worried about this, asking a community member to use the Clang source to write a short document on the details you require might be a way forward. Alex

New attributes in Samba AD
Hello James, About the warning, I only accept it and try to create a new attribute/class. However, when I put all the parameters (name, OID, syntax...), the system accuses that the server is unable to proceed. Do you know if Samba's schema is closed, that cannot be modified? Why I reinvented the wheel with M3F
Daniel, nobody has accused you of reinventing the wheel. You give up too easily. If you want to develop a standard, it takes a lot of discussion and input - and it takes diplomacy. Attacking people and attacking the community will not be helpful. You have asked for feedback - feedback has been given. Now it's time to...

Resuming the discussion of establishing an LLVM code of conduct
Greetings all, This has come up a few times, and I would like to resume the effort to establish an LLVM code of conduct. First and foremost, many thanks to Philip Reames who sat down with me several months ago and worked through a number of suggestions that I've tried to incorporate into an updated patch with the draft text: http://reviews.llvm.org/D13741 I think his updates plus a few

Automating binning for chisq.test()
...o both) requires one to pre-bin the distributions. Is there a library function (either built-in or in a package) that acts more like the ks.test() function, in that one can simply pass the two distributions and have it do the necessary binning as well as the actual statistical test? (Yes, you can accuse me of laziness: I just don't fancy trying to figure out a routine that would make sure that there more than 5 samples in each of the expected bins before applying the chi-squared test. It seems too much like re-inventing an elementary wheel that must have been invented by someone else.)

Self-hosting bots noise
Hi David/Galina, FYI, I found one big reason why self-hosting bots fail long after the offending commit is tested: dirty builds. In a dirty build (no make clean), when a file X is changed that breaks file Y, the bot will only accuse the failure when file Y is changed, too, so that stage1 with modified X will compile file Y, and break. At hindsight, it's obvious. But I hadn't connected the dots before... :/ I'm moving all my self-hosting bots to clean builds and will be relying solely on ccache to make stage1 fas...

[OT] - Why should I answer a Newbie questio n,therethick!
...meone hasn't done their research, then > delete the message. Well, sometimes that works. But I've been on a lot of lists where newbies who thought they were being ignored started flaming people for not responding to them, writing posts badmouthing the project, hijacking other threads, accusing people of being cliquish, etc. Sometimes you just can't win.

I signed up because I thought I might get some MarkDown use tips. *I have learned nothing from this list.* I have witnessed a lot of bitching (which I guess you could accuse me of now) and in-fighting. Adults acting like children. I just read a long post about how "no one is listening to me...." Waah. Waah. Probably going to unsubscribe; so far all of these emails have just been DELETE, DELETE, DELETE. I hope to gather some useful knowledge on this littl...

Clarification: Can Windows 'Network Drive' name be changed ?

You all mentioned "server string". A couple of you went a little further and accused me of not "reading the xxxxxxx manual". Thank you for the reminder but I am well aware of the protocol for using bulletin boards, forums, mailing lists, etc. In fact I had already read the online Samba guide, and two sets of man pages, and I had already seen and tried "server strin...

In order to test if everything is ok (this is a test machine) I've switched off with no shutdown. Except the / all other partitions accused a "journaling something at boot time". Since I can see the .journal I assume that it may be a explicit call to fsck.ext2 somewhere (/etc/rc.xxxx?) . Is this correct ? Does anyboy know where to change that ? Best Regards, Lx

Problems with Windows XP clients

Here's what's happening: some clients join the Samba Domain normally but, after the required boot (always required - it's a Windows machine), the machine refuses to logon to the domains accusing that the PDC could not be found; another Windows XP client simply refuses to join the domain and returns an error message (I'm sorry I've forgotten to take note of the message). Windows 98 clients work just fine. This network has a DHCP and a DNS (which also forwards DNS querys to DNS...
