[Samba] Backport of all features and bug fixes for kernel client to recent kernels
For those interested in trying out updated features to the Linux kernel client, but aren't running a recent kernel, I created a full backport of all relevant fixes and features (ie all changes to cifs.ko that were not caused by global changes to the VFS interface or Linux kernel system calls) for Linux kernels version 4.9 through 4.15. They include all patches accepted upstream (including recent changesets, those added in 4.16) so far so include many important new features (SMB3 encryption, SMB3 direct RDMA support etc.) not just fixes. Note that the Linux-stable git tree kernels tend not to include new features, and only a subset of bug fixes, so these have much more function than the Linux-stable equivalents of them, but have received less testing than some of the Linux-stable equivalents. More information can be found at https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/LinuxSMB3_build_backport I only did limited testing, but seemed ok. Please post to linux-cifs mailing list if problems found. -- Thanks, Steve

[Samba] Backport of all features and bug fixes for kernel client to recent kernels
Hi Steve, you should have a look at [Bug 13107] Missing directories with smbv2: with smbv1, they show up https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=13107 This seems to be regression in the new code. metze Am 24.03.2018 um 06:47 schrieb Steve French via samba-technical:> For those interested in trying out updated features to the Linux > kernel client, but aren't running a recent kernel, I created a full > backport of all relevant fixes and features (ie all changes to cifs.ko > that were not caused by global changes to the VFS interface or Linux > kernel system calls) for Linux kernels version 4.9 through 4.15. > They include all patches accepted upstream (including recent > changesets, those added in 4.16) so far so include many important new > features (SMB3 encryption, SMB3 direct RDMA support etc.) not just > fixes.
