I'm not entirely sure that this is the place to be asking this question,
but I can probably help you out as we have a very similar setup.
Essentially, you're right, Linux doesn't have an archive bit to set like
windows does. The easy way to get around this is just to set the job
filter to only backup files modified in the last x number of days. This
works like a charm for us.
