[Samba] multiple workgroups from one Samba server?
Hello, Is it possible to set up multiple Windows workgroups on a single Samba server? We have the same user, defined in 2 different workgroups (Windows Domains), and would like both of these users to connect to the same Samba share. However, we're not certain if this is possible, or what the syntax should be in the config. file. Any ideas here? A machine can only join one domain at a time. A user can only be logged into one domain at a time. It should be possible to log into one domain and mount a share on a server in the other domain if you have a valid username and password. On a windows workstation at the command line try this to mount shares in two different domains: \\net use X: \\servername\sharename /user:domainname\username \\net use Z: \\otherservername\sharename /user:otherdomainname\username "X:" and "Z:" could be any free drive lettesr. anything ending in "name", you will replace with the appropriate name You will be prompted for a password. The other way to go is a domain trust. Check out Samba3 Howto to see if that will work On Jul 11, 2005, at 10:25 AM, <david-e.hansen@ubs.com> wrote:> Hello, > > Is it possible to set up multiple Windows workgroups on a single Samba > server? [Samba] multiple workgroups from one Samba server?
Hi Matthew, Thanks for the response. What I'm trying to do is fairly similar to this, but not exactly the same thing. I need something like: On Windows machine ABC: \\net use X: \\servername\sharename /user:domainname\username On Windows machine XYZ: \\net use X: \\servername\sharename /user:otherdomainname\username I.e. I was hoping that the same Samba server, could "service" multiple Windows workgroups. I think you've answered my question already, i.e. that this is not possible, and we would need a 2nd Samba server to service the user accounts on the 2nd windows workgroup. Is this the case?
