Hi, I have the dreaded "unknown auth type 9 requested" error while trying to join my samba domain from Windows2003. This is followed by "Error: modifications require authentication at /usr/local/sbin//smbldap_tools.pm" while attempting to add the machine user to the ldap database. In the archives I have found that "unknown auth type" was a known problem which should have been fixed in 3.0.14a. I am running 3.0.15pre2 on SLES9. The client is running Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Standard Edition, with Service Pack 1. Is it possible I have something misconfigured (unconfigured?) in smb.conf? -- Don Watson

It was my goof. jeremy fixed it. Should be ok in 3.0.20pre1 (or the latest SAMBA_3_0 svn tree). cheers, jerry ====================================================================Alleviating the pain of Windows(tm) ------- http://www.samba.org GnuPG Key ----- http://www.plainjoe.org/gpg_public.asc "I never saved anything for the swim back." Jerry, Thanks to a lot of advice from John Terpstra, I believe I have solved the problem. The root user must be in the ldap database, and its password must be set (I used smbldap-passwd for this). On the Windows side, use the Administrator user to add the machine to the domain. The only thing I'm not sure of is the relationship between the Windows Administrator user and the Linux root user. -- Don Watson
