-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 I've got several machines 98SE machies, but not all, that reboot after you enter your username and password on the login screen and hit enter. No noticable pause. The account used doesn't matter, and only 2 do it consistently. The rest do it only sometimes or for most of the workstations, work just fine. I'm using a Samba 3.0.6 as a NT domain controller. The weird thing is if I go into the network properties on the 98's and tell them not to login to the domain, they work fine. I can access the shares on the server without problem (provided I use the correct username and password). The server logs show nothing abnormal. These are not new workstations either. They have been using the server fine for months until yesterday. A google search turned up someone else having the same problem, but no solution. I've scanned for viruses and spyware and found nothing but a few tracking cookies. I've removed and reinstalled all network components (on the clients) without success. I've update the client network drivers without luck either. Anyone have any ideas? - -- Fail to learn history-repeat it. Fail to learn rights-lose them. Learn both-get screwed by previous two groups. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Yes. I removed all startup programs and services using a clean boot procedure to no avail. I doubt that was the cause anyway. The samba machine has a simple login script. The reboot happens before the script is called. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 I'll have to test that, but I know this isn't the case now. The accounts that crash on the problem machines work fine on other machines. Permissions shouldn't change depending on which machine. (Is there a way to change rights depending on where you login from? I remember NT4.0 could limit logins to specific clients.) Doesn't matter which account I use either. I'm really starting to think it's local to the client and may not have anything to with the server. But why two clients and not the rest, and why do 2 others do it only intermittently? -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Thanks for the effort, but other than the default entry, WinLogon was empty. I checked this against another machine that was not having problems and the entries were identical. For my information, do you remember what was appended to do the reboot? Due to pressure (seeing as how these are payroll computers and payday is coming up), I decided had to take the easy/quick way out. I reinstalled windows on top of itself and this fixed the problem on both machines. So the theory it was a client issue was correct. Now as to whether is was a registry problem or some corrupt file I can't say.
