It couldn't hurt to separate them. In a print system that is used here,
the path directive in each printer is set to use
/var/spool/samba/<printer_name> to solve a problem that we had under Samba
2.0.x (I can't remember the exact version number that we were using at the
time) where samba began to use the Windows filename as the spool filename
- name collisions were not uncommon and created the problem you describe.
That was solved in a later version of 2.0.x, so that specific problem may
no longer apply, but...
