Hi again, I posted this message some time ago in the list, however nobody replied yet. I find this kinda weird because the problem happens with both my XP computers, so I am pretty sure there must be at least a couple of guys out there with the same problem... Basically the problem is that when using Samba shares from XP from time to time I experience a ~30 second lockup of the shares. This doesn't happen in other windows versions. Anyone is having the same issue and/or knows how to solve it? Thanks, Boogerman ----- Original Message ----- From: "Boogerman" <boogerman@interar.com.ar> To: <samba@lists.samba.org> Sent: Saturday, November 09, 2002 9:55 PM Subject: Samba and Windows XP, 30 second lockup> Hi all, > > I've been using Samba for quite a while now (about 3 years), and I'vetried> it with multiple Windows versions: 98, ME, 2000 and XP, in that order. > However, when I migrated from 2000 to XP, a problem apeared that was not > present in any other Windows version. Anyone is having > the same issue and/or knows how to solve it?Are you sharing printers from Samba ? On print open, XP makes a request to monitor a printer for change notify which causes Samba to do a reverse connection back to the client, currently with 30 second timeout (which makes me suspicious). Do you have firewall settings on the XP boxes that would prevent reverse connections to ports 445 or 139 ? Jeremy.
I once experienced a ~30 second delay in retrieving files from a win2k host and a win98 client... I just immediately disliked windows2k and used linux/samba as a fileserver... I would assume that it is a windows problem (of cource! ;) )... Try the service packs, export a samba share and use that... Just my 2 cents... I have got a problem with a windows 2000 client to a samba server. When i look on the files on linux, I see a access time and a different modification time, if I look on the same file fra the windows client on the samba server, the access time and modification time are identical, but if I look on a file on a windows 2000 server, there is difference between the two times: How can I get the windows 2000 client to get the rigt access time from the samba server?? And I how another problem with connecting to a samba printer, when I use net use lpt1 \\server\printer i only get an error, is there some special with suse linux on that point? Thanks if somebody are able to help me. Tage Danielsen
What I actually meant was any firewall, including XP's. Anyway, a solution has ben proposed in this mailing list wich consisted in disabling webDAV. I've done so but I won't be able to confirm that it works until some time has elapsed, since it is a random issue...
