[Samba] Samba printers published in AD?....folders too!
Sorry for not putting previous text in this reply...notes keeps crashing when I do. Drew, it is possible to publish the samba printers, in just the same way you publish an NT printer. I believe if you look in the "Active Directory Users and Computers" MMC snap-in (though it could be a different one), if you right-click on pretty much any object, you are given the option to "publish downlevel printer...", and it will go in that container object, so be careful which one you do it in. It will contact the samba server and get all the driver info it needs. It should work with 2.2, and does it all using the SPOOLSS code. I have used it successfully. You can also publish shared folders in the same way. ---------------------------- Jim McDonough IBM Linux Technology Center Samba Team 6 Minuteman Drive Scarborough, ME 04074 USA jmcd@us.ibm.com jmcd@samba.org Phone: (207) 885-5565 IBM tie-line: 776-9984

[Samba] Samba printers published in AD?....folders too!
In the AD Users and Computers MMC when I right click on any of the objects I don not see a "publish downlevel printer" option. I tried a couple other MMC snap-ins and did not see this option. Which one did you find it in? This does work with Samba+Winbindd and not just Samba 3.0.x right? -----Original Message----- From: jmcd [mailto:jmcd@us.ibm.com] Sent: Tuesday, August 06, 2002 6:56 AM To: drew.arthur; jerry Cc: samba Subject: Re: [Samba] Samba printers published in AD?....folders too! It is in the AD Users and Computers MMC, but when you right click, do "new->printer". It will ask you for the UNC path (i.e. \\server\printername). It should take it from there. The object will be placed in the container where you right-click. ---------------------------- Jim McDonough IBM Linux Technology Center Samba Team 6 Minuteman Drive Scarborough, ME 04074 USA jmcd@us.ibm.com jmcd@samba.org Phone: (207) 885-5565 IBM tie-line: 776-9984
