I've gotten 4 e-mails from this list today from people who were sending out this virus. It appears to be spreading rather quickly. I would urge all of you to update your virus software and get rid of this bug quickly. Thanks, James Simons
Hi all and list admin(s), I think it's best that the list software only accepts plain text e-mails and deletes ALL attachments. Maby to help the MS world a bit convert all HTML mails to plain text and from that point distribute the plain text mails to all users. This will prefent any viruses to spread using the samba mailinlist. Here at work I have the mail system configured to bounce messages executable attachments, based on a rather long list of possible file extensions. This would work for badtrans, since my understanding is it attaches as a .scr or .pif file. Text and gzipped attachments should probably be allowed since some people use them to provide debug logs. -----Original Message----- From: Ries van Twisk [mailto:ries@franksintl.nl] Sent: Tuesday, November 27, 2001 11:34 AM To: James Simons; samba@samba.org Subject: Re: badtrans virus Hi all and list admin(s), I think it's best that the list software only accepts plain text e-mails and deletes ALL attachments.
