I am still having some troubles getting samba to work. I have installed samba and it seems to be fine from the server point of view. However, my client can see the server in the Network neighborhood, but I get network path not found. The server and the client are on different sub-nets. Both the client and the server are using DNS to resolve names. Both are resolvable. They use FTP between the 2 just fine. I have other clients that, when they attempt to use the server, get access denied from this station. The main reason for using Samba is for the client that cannot get to the server. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks, Rod.
I am attempting to connect through network neighborhood. I got the connectivity issue resolved by adding the server to lmhosts. I don't think I should have had to do that. Now the problem is, a pop up saying incorrect password or unknown username for: \\MYSERIVER. It prompts me for a login. I give a valid login and I get this account is not authorize to login from this station. Network path not found however suggests the share name you are trying to access doesnt exists. However you dont mention how you try and connect (through network neighbourhood or via UNC in the run box or command prompt). Again the 'hosts allow' setting mentioned above may have something to do with this. It woupld be helpful if you could provide more info on your setup and how you are trying to connect though HTH Ash -----Original Message----- From: samba-admin@lists.samba.org [mailto:samba-admin@lists.samba.org]On Behalf Of Rod Jenkins Sent: 01 March 2001 19:57 To: samba Subject: Configuring Samba I am still having some troubles getting samba to work. Rod, give us a little more information... What Linux/Unix system are you using and what version of samba? Are you using DHCP or static IPs? How many client machines do you have? How many client machines do you have working and what OS do you have on them? How is TCP/IP configured on the client (DHCP, WINS, Gateway and DNS) If WinXX, what does winipcfg say? How many client machines do you have NOT working and what OS do you have on them? How is TCP/IP configured on the client (DHCP, WINS, Gateway and DNS) If WinXX, what does winipcfg say? What does your smb.conf look like? What does your "var/log/messages" file look like? What does your "var/log/samba/smb.log" file look like (could be under a different name)? I think I could give a much more meaningful answer if I had the above information. Moreover, those on the list with much greater experience than I would also be in a better position to address your problem and offer probable solutions. I can't help you with multiple subnet problems - I haven't done that yet.. Hi, I'm trying to find a solution about configuring samba on a a Unix machine. I have already installed NIS+ for authentication but I'm not able to configure samba on it. Does anyone did it before? Please help Best regards Georges
I am running on a Sun Blade 1000 using Solaris 8 and trying to configure Samba. I am using as a reference "The Unofficial Samba HOWTO" by David Lechnyr. I got samba 2.2.9 package from SunFreeware CD and used pkgadd to install it. I created the smb.conf with the quick & dirty parameters he suggested. I then was doing the commands he suggested to make that configuration file work correctly. When I went to use the smbpasswd command, I got: ld.so.1: smbpasswd: fatal: libpopt.so.0: open failed: No such file or directory Killed The testparm command gives the same result. When I did a find for libpopt.so.0 from /, it isn't there. What do I do from here?
You can find and install this libpopt from sunfreeware. -- Christopher Barry Manager of Information Systems InfiniCon Systems http://www.infiniconsys.com -----Original Message----- From: Harter, Douglas [mailto:dharter@state.pa.us] Sent: Thursday, April 03, 2003 12:01 PM To: Help Samba (E-mail 2) Subject: [Samba] Configuring Samba I am running on a Sun Blade 1000 using Solaris 8 and trying to configure Samba.
