The problem is actually very simple to describe. I manage a Linux fileserver. Most of the clients use Win98 or NT4 and that seems to work just fine - but w2k is an entirely different story. What happens is that no w2k can see the shares in the linux machine an when trying to access it w2k comes with something like "Service not avaible - connection closed". Now the really fun part starts. When using w2k build 2072 or less w2k can access a share if the sharename is know (ak. you write \\<server>\<sharename>) BUT on w2k build 2114 and up even this dosn't work ! Know my question is is there some solution to this problem ? Below i have some log entries from the samba-log file: [1999/09/10 19:48:38, 1] smbd/service.c:make_connection(521) escape (192.38.214.21) connect to service Incoming as user nobody (uid=65534, gid=0) (pid 11317) which really makes no sense ....... samba say "escape" is conected but w2k say's the opposite. May be this has something to do with this ?? But on the other hand it works fine for Win98 and NT4: [1999/09/10 19:26:48, 1] smbd/password.c:pass_check_smb(504) Couldn't find user 'nobody' in smb_passwd file. And by the way if i reset the samba server with a w2k client conected (or not "conected" from w2k's point of view) i get: [1999/09/10 19:42:38, 1] smbd/service.c:close_cnum(557) escape (192.38.214.21) closed connection to service Incoming so actually w2k was conected ??!!! or what ? If i add a user nobody in the smbpasswd file (tp prevent the passwd-check error) i get this combination of errors: [1999/09/10 19:49:58, 1] smbd/service.c:make_connection(521) escape (192.38.214.21) connect to service Incoming as user nobody (uid=65534, gid=0) (pid 11333) [1999/09/10 19:50:03, 0] smbd/nttrans.c:call_nt_transact_ioctl(2387) call_nt_transact_ioctl: Currently not implemented. Now i am really confused. And to complete the confusion ..... if using samba 1.9.xx all works fine with w2k build 2072 or less (i don't now about build 2114 or above) So the point is what is wrong and how do i make samba to work with w2k like Win98 and NT4 ?? -- Mvh.
