The problem is that the default guest account for samba is "nobody",
which
has a negative uid and gid
on HP-UX, and a negative uid/gid will core smbd.
To fix this, create a useraccount called 'smbuser' in a group with a
non-negative gid, and add the
following line to the global section of your smb.conf file:
guest account = smbuser
