samba - Jul 1997 - Security concerns

Hi all,
I'm new to this list, so you've probably answered this
question before but....

What are the security issues raised by using Samba?

What I mean by this is can someone break into
my UNIX box through use of samba, SMB, etc.
Can someone write to/mount a shared drive without
permission?


These questions are asked given that I use
security = user
and that I place all NT clients in the access list
for all shares.


P.S. my setup is NT 4.0 SP3 and a Sun Sparc Ultra 
running Solaris 2.5.1

Hello.

I would like to share a file system from a Sun box running Solaris 2.5.1 to
windows clients over the Internet.  Can someone tell me what security
issues I should be aware of?  I have heard mention of winnuke and jolt
crashing Windows machines running Samba.  Are there vulnerabilities in
Samba that can be exploited on Solaris?
