http://www.ruby-friday.org/ I made this site around christmas, but it''s been lying around on my computer until now, when I realised that the only way I''m going to get off my lazy behind and do something with it was by letting it out in the open, where everyone can see its shortcomings and make me do something about it. I don''t like releasing something that''s not finished (I want to be like Apple, only not as retarded), but it''s what makes the most sense. So, what is it? It''s meant to be a Ruby (and Rails) community web site, whatever that means. It''s got forums and articles and links. No blogs, I despise blogs (please don''t throw your iPod at me in anger :). There''s no AJAX either; this was made before AJAX. Maybe I''ll add it later. There''s also almost no content right now, except for a couple of articles I wrote only because there was nothing there, but that''s what I''m hoping to change. If you have any suggestions, comments or anything else you want me to know, please tell me. I may come off as hostile, ignorant and arrogant, but I too want world peace and prosperity for all :) I will also be working a lot the next week or so, and thus have very little time to check my e-mail and do any work on the site. My timing is always the best. But I will eventually respond in one way or another, if anyone cares at all. Tore Darell toredarell-Re5JQEeQqe8AvxtiuMwx3w@public.gmane.org

Looks like another potentially great resource to the community. I like the site functionality quite a bit--I''m surprised you hadn''t released it earlier. Regarding the articles, how are they created? At what level of user (beyond ''peasant'', I assume) can a user post articles? Also, what do the different user levels do? Cosmetically, I like PJ''s suggestion to reduce the header space (and that Ruby graphic''s gotta go, but I realize graphics are often lower priority on functional releases!) Overall, however, I like the smooth, comfortable feel of the site. Thanks for the new addition! Duane Johnson (canadaduane)

And, I wanted to make it nice and pretty with lots of interesting content before releasing it. But I figured to do it the open source way (release early, often, though there''s no open source)..> > Regarding the articles, how are they created? Also, what do > the different user levels do?At the moment, only users with level "God" (i.e. me) can post articles and make other changes. The other user levels don''t do anything right now.. I''m thinking of converting to a role-based model, as it makes more sense. I originally did the user level thing only because I thought it''d be cool. It''s not really :) If anyone wants to have an article published, just email it to me (for now)..> > Cosmetically, I like PJ''s suggestion to reduce the header space (and > that Ruby graphic''s gotta go, but I realize graphics are often lower > priority on functional releases!) But it was just taking up space, so it had to go.. I was going to use that space for something, but couldn''t think of anything, and I managed to lose the original template, so.. Did some cleaning up of the HTML and CSS too..> Thanks for the new addition! My pleasure. Really, I enjoyed making it, as my first Rails project back then. Thanks to those who responded with suggestions and encouraging words! And to those who bothered to look at it at all :) Tore
