I am running R on an XP machine. Lately I have been unable to start R in any
mode without getting the 'Fatal Error: cannnot find unused tempdir name'
message.
After reading previous postings I went in and deleted all my Rtmp* directories
in /documents and settings/USER/local/tmp which didn't help, I also
uninstalled and reinstalled R to no avail.
Running on a second machine I noticed that the last Rtmp* directory created
before the error was Rtmp32767 which seems to imply some sort of counter has
reached a 2 byte limit. Where is this counter, and how do I reset it?
