R help - Jun 2003 - install pls.pcr package

How do you install a package from CRAN ? I want to install pls.pcr, so I have
downloaded pls.pcr_0.1.1.tar.gz  but when I try to install it using the install
package(s) from local zip file(s) option it says :

install.packages(choose.files('',filters=Filters[c('zip','All'),]),
.libPaths()[1], CRAN = NULL)
Error in file(file, "r") : unable to open connection
In addition: Warning messages: 
1: error 1 in extracting from zip file 
2: cannot open file `pls.pcr_0.1.1.tar.gz/DESCRIPTION'

I am assuming you are using Windows.  So why did you download the source 
file?  If you are using the Packages -> Install packages from local zip 
files menu, why not just choose Install packages from CRAN, then select 
pls.pcr?  

Alternatively if you want to download the "compiled" package, you
should
do it under http://cran.r-project.org/bin/windows/contrib

On Windows? As the error message suggest, use the .zip file, not the 
.tar.gz one. You can also install directly from CRAN, without explicit 
download.
