Members of R-devel may be interested in the special Sept. 2000 issue of J. of Comp. and Graph. Statist. http://www.amstat.org/publications/asajournals.html#jcgs on Systems and Languages. It features two articles by Robert Gentleman and Ross Ihaka on "Java and Dylan" and "Lexical Scope and Statistical Computing", an article by Paul Murrell and Ross Ihaka on "An Approach to Providing Mathematical Annotation on Plots", an article by John Chambers on "Users, Programmers, and Statistical Software", an article by Duncan Temple Lang on "The Omegahat Environment", an article by Luke Tierney on "Connecting Lisp-Stat to COM", and an article co-authored by Thomas Lumley on "Orca: A Visualization Toolkit for High-Dimensional Data". All of the authors mentioned above are members of R-core. Some of these articles deal directly with R - for example, Gentleman and Ihaka on lexical scoping should be of interest to anyone doing advanced R development. Other articles describe some related interests of R-core members. This is one of the few issues of an academic journal that I will read cover-to-cover. There's lots of good material in there. -- Douglas Bates bates@stat.wisc.edu Statistics Department 608/262-2598 University of Wisconsin - Madison http://www.stat.wisc.edu/~bates/ -.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.- r-devel mailing list -- Read http://www.ci.tuwien.ac.at/~hornik/R/R-FAQ.html Send "info", "help", or "[un]subscribe" (in the "body", not the subject !)
