[Pkg-xen-devel] patches from debian/patches into xen-unstable and 3.2
I would like to try to reduce the size of large pile of patches in debian/patches by providing most of the relevant configurability the upstream build system. Would you approve of that ? Do you have any opinions on how it ought to be done ? The current package gives the impression that the patches have just sort of accumulated, so I think it might be best if I tried to divine what the purpose of each one was and provided a way to achieve the same objective. That would naturally be somewhat disruptive for your merging, but of course at the moment there seem to be merge conflicts in the patch set very often so in the long run I hope for an improvement. Regards, Ian.

[Pkg-xen-devel] patches from debian/patches into xen-unstable and 3.2
Hi Ian, because you haven't recieved any answer on your mail, at least my opinion is clear: that would be great and at least I would approve that very much, but I guess all other involved people would like that too. simple debian packages with only a simple patches & rule/control files are always better then unneccessary complex packages. I think some aspects of the debian package got quite complex since the old 2.0 releases years ago (including the patches), and I think it would help to reduce that complexity. Don't get me wrong, the resulting xen packages are working great, but they are not made for easy maintainace of the packages source files. Helping from the upstream side could be good to archive that. I think upstream didn't really focused on that in the past. Xen has awsome code, but sometimes old relases on their homepage and stuff like that. So upstream seem to be genious at programming but not so good at releasing :) I think most of the patches are from Bastian, so if you have question about some of the patches, ask him or better the list. I think someone always knows the answer :) --Ralph Am Freitag, 7.
