The current package gives the impression that the patches have just sort of accumulated, so I think it might be best if I tried to divine what the purpose of each one was and provided a way to achieve the same objective. That would naturally be somewhat disruptive for your merging, but of course at the moment there seem to be merge conflicts in the patch set very often so in the long run I hope for an improvement.
