Hi developers, I would like to propose making a release soon from the current NUT trunk. There have been a lot of important changes since 2.0.5: new drivers added/refined (e.g. megatec_usb); the switch to Automake; the renaming of newhidups to usbhid-ups; automatic installation of hotplugging files; IPv6 support; improvements to the tripplite_usb driver; improvements to the gamatronic driver; memory leaks and other bugs fixed; improvements to the powerpanel driver; etc. I know we are all waiting for the ominous 2.2.0 mega-super-rewrite, but the loftier the goal, the less likely it is to happen soon. Meanwhile, I propose that we should make unstable releases (such as 2.0.6) more frequently, at least every 3 months or so. With Automake, this is a matter of a few simple steps: * editing NEWS * updating the version number in configure.in * "make distcheck" * tagging the release in SVN. * copying the tarball to the website * updating the auto-generated files on the website (driver list etc). The advantage would be that we don't have to keep telling people to use SVN sources; don't have to keep explaining that some drivers have been renamed, etc. Opinions? -- Peter

As Peter stated, it have been many changes since the 2.0.5. Regards Kjell

I know that "make distcheck" is going to ensure that we have added all the relevant files to Makefile.am, but checking out and building from a tag ensures that everything has been added to SVN, and you aren't relying on local uncommitted files. -- - Charles Lepple

Hi there, thanks to Peter for launching this thread. 2007/5/22, Peter Selinger <selinger at mathstat.dal.ca>:> Hi developers, > > I would like to propose making a release soon from the current NUT > trunk. I've realized that the last major milestone (2.0) is more than 2 years old! 2.2 is overdue considering the features list, would no more waste our development time in backports, and most of all would help our users. so let's clean a bit the beast and meet again in a week for a testing release.
