Can Asterisks properly handle outbound Enhanced 911? Blake
I think your question needs to be "can my dial tone provider handle e911?" e911 is implemented by the party providing dial tone on the PSTN, at some point your call must be routed to the PSTN to reach 911. When you call 911 a dip is done into a psap database to retrieve the address data and it is transmitted to the 911 dispatcher. This would not be handled by *, but by the PSAP, maintainer in your service area. All * needs to be able to do is transfer the caller ID info, which it does. The rest is magic outside of * An example of a 911 services provider is intrado at www.intrado.com> -----Original Message----- > From: asterisk-users-bounces@lists.digium.com > [mailto:asterisk-users-bounces@lists.digium.com] On Behalf Of > Parker, Blake (MIS) > Sent: Tuesday, March 22, 2005 7:41 AM > To: Asterisk Users Mailing List - Non-Commercial Discussion > Subject: [Asterisk-Users] Enhanced 911 > > Can Asterisks properly handle outbound Enhanced 911? > > Blake > _______________________________________________ > Asterisk-Users mailing list > Asterisk-Users@lists.digium.com > http://lists.digium.com/mailman/listinfo/asterisk-users > To UNSUBSCRIBE or update options visit: > http://lists.digium.com/mailman/listinfo/asterisk-users >

Asterisk supports one of the 6 or so ways a PBX can support E911. If you provide the details of what specific implimentation of E911 you are looking for, I'm sure someone can help you. I handle E911 by not being a cheap bastard and making sure I have at least 1 local telco line at each location I have an Asterisk server. Granted, this is only helpful for people that are at the same street address as the Asterisk server. For the few remote VoIP users, we tell them not to be a cheap bastard and have a local phone line for E911 calls. Granted, I run Asterisk in a business enviroment and not in a service provider enviroment. Perhaps you might consider SEARCHING GOOGLE BEFORE ASKING A QUESTION LIKE THIS? Previous answer did not address GPS coordinate issues, are your * users mobile? Part of the e911 service is to provide gps coords from the cell site (or handset if so equipped). This information is useless for a stationary user, the address is what is needed in this case.> -----Original Message----- > From: asterisk-users-bounces@lists.digium.com > [mailto:asterisk-users-bounces@lists.digium.com] On Behalf Of > Parker, Blake (MIS) > Sent: Tuesday, March 22, 2005 7:41 AM > To: Asterisk Users Mailing List - Non-Commercial Discussion > Subject: [Asterisk-Users] Enhanced 911 > > Can Asterisks properly handle outbound Enhanced 911? > > Blake > _______________________________________________ > Asterisk-Users mailing list > Asterisk-Users@lists.digium.com > http://lists.digium.com/mailman/listinfo/asterisk-users > To UNSUBSCRIBE or update options visit: > http://lists.digium.com/mailman/listinfo/asterisk-users >
