Does asterisk support the intel 537/md3200 chipset? I don't want to start any flames here, I know all about using generic crap in asterisk,[*] which I really don't approve of other than for testing, but I have a customer demanding a generic chipset for his one backup analog line. He will not spend the money for a Digium card and says he will find another company if I can not provide a generic FXO port. One who is prepared to risk system stability for a few dollars? I would say that if something breaks, he will be the same type of customer who wants you to fix it for free... I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and assume that maybe he's 10 years old and has saved his pocket money - after all, who wouldn't want to help a poor 10 year old just getting into Linux and VoIP? Seeing as Digium no longer sells the X100P cards (of which you are hoping to buy a clone), I guess it's all right to use their bandwidth for this... Yes, you can buy a clone. Yes, it may work currently (although I wouldn't want to guess for how long). Also, the actual cards that the X100Ps are based on have stopped being produced by Intel, so you're out of luck as far as a replacement goes in 6 months time. Don't forget that the impedance on the X100P (or clone) is 600Ohms so you won't be able to use it without echo outside of the United States. Really I'd recommend getting a TDM400P card or some older customers. :-) -- Cheers, Matt Riddell _______________________________________________ http://www.sineapps.com/news.php (Daily Asterisk News - html) http://www.sineapps.com/rssfeed.php (Daily Asterisk News - rss)

Add the $20 for the generic card, plus the $10 delivery, and you are probably in front anyway. You are happy, the customer is happy, and case is closed. Just my opinion :) Regards, Adam

One model was designed for US use while others were for global use. The x100p was the US type. An individual from the UK was just implementing a 537/md3200 type in the last week and had some echo issues. Not sure which exact model he had though; but best guess was a US type. (The US type used a Silicon Labs 3012 chip for 600 ohm pstn lines, while the global version used a different chip for other line impedences.) There should be plenty of digium x100p's around for very reasonable prices given they've been removed from the digium web site.

It sounds like he doesn't have Clue One about what he really wants. -A.
