[Asterisk-Users] vonage and asterisk
I've been reading all I can in order to try to implement an asterisk setup. In speaking with someone the other day, they advised they thought there was a way to make a SIP or softphone (gnophone) go straight out to the vonage network through asterisk. I already have vonage set up with an ATA 186. What I'm wondering is is there some way that I could direct dial from a softphone (gnophone) to vonage network through Asterisk? Please excuse me if I'm using SIP and softphone in incorrect ways, I'm a bit new to the telephony aspect. Thanks for any and all suggestions. AJ
The bad news is that Vonage won't give you the information on your phone, so you can't use it "directly" from Asterisk via SIP. I would suggest you don't use their service. There are two alternatives: 1) You can buy an X100P card from Digium, which then connects to your supplied ATA-186, and you can make calls go to the "PSTN" from Asterisk, which will really be terminating on your ATA-186. This is a terrible kludge, and is silly. 2) You can use another SIP/IAX provider for your long distance. I use iconnecthere.com, who coincidentally charges less but only has a 1000 minute plan.
