Connections, but no voice paths except by console
I have a software-only PBX set up. I can register various softphones and
they will call each other -- but I've never succeeded in getting any
voice routed from any of the softphones. Only the console will transmit
audio.
I am writing to ask if I have missed some obvious step in configuring
the system.

estara softphone problem
Hi all, I installed the estara softphone and had no
problem registering it with asterisk. I could make
calls to other hardware SIP phones (Cisco 7960) from
the softphone, but I couldn't call the softphone from
the Cisco 7960s. The asterisk console gave me an error
message saying "unable to create channel" to my
softphone. Wh...

Enhanced Messaging and softphones
Hello,
I've just read in [1] about SIP MESSAGE addition to both chan_pjsip and
ConfBridge.
It seems very interesting addition as it brings the capability to mix
voice, video and text in conferencing.
On an other hand, there are some softphones (Zoiper, Bria, ...) that tout
voice, video and chat capability.
Though Enhanced Messaging solution described in [1] seems more attractive
to me in the long run, I wonder if it could easier to quickly set a demo
using softphone instead of a web application.
In this case, was I'm failing to und...

WebRTC as Softphone substitute ?
Hello,
This morning, I asked myself if WebRTC could be a viable alternative to
softphone deployment.
For me, main issue with Softphones is the amount of work needed for
installation and configuration.
Also, Softphones must be carefully choosen if Deskphone-like quality is
expected.
Now that WebRTC becomes ubiquitous, it might make sense to trade Softphone
features (call history, BLF,...

softphone instead of desktop phones
Thirdlane Connect can be used as a softphone. It works in modern browsers (no installation is required), on Mac, Windows and Linux desktops, and on mobile phones.
Besides basic softphone functionality, it provides instant messaging, group chat (channels), voice and video conferencing, and screen sharing. It integrates with a variety of appli...

Basical question to asterisk
Hello!
I'm new to asterisk and because I try to configure the package for my
needs the last days without success, I'd like to ask a basical qestion.
I need asterisk to work together with the German VoIP provider sipgate
(http://www.sipgate.de). Asterisk should act as a softphone, I want to
recive and make calls only with the software under linux, no softphone
should be used. Is this possible with asterisk in principle or do I have
to use a real softphone together with asterisk?
Manny thanks!

Vista compatibilty in SIP softphones
Greetings list,
I've noticed over the last couple of weeks that, unsurprisingly, nearly every new PC seems to be coming with Vista these days. I expect it'll only be a matter of time for all of us before clients start needing Vista-compatible softphones (if it's not already happened).
So, what's the story with Vista compatibility amongst the softphones currently out there? Ideally, I'd like to find a decent open-source Vista-compatible softphone, but free, even if closed-source would do the job for the time being.
What are your expe...

How can I force Asterisk t not override my codec order?
I've noticed the following situation:
In two softphones, I've configured the next codec order for each one
softphone 1: 1 - PCMA
2 - GSM
softphone 2: 1 - GSM
2 - PCMA
and in Asterisk, the order is:
disallow=all
allow=gsm
allow=alaw
If I call from softphone 1 to softphone 2, I presume that Asterisk
should do transco...

Asterisk/iaxclient IAX2 source port
...site A.
Normally, this is fine. A call is placed from A to B and the
packets come into the router at B and get NATed properly:
A.ext:4569 - B.ext:4569 -> A.ext:4569 - B.int.asterisk:4569
The trouble though, comes when someone who normally works at site
A vists site B, but has their IAX softphone (zoiper) set to register back
to site A. By default, this softphone, like asterisk, uses 4569 for both
the source and destination port. Thus, if there is no call between site A
and site B and a softphone registers back to site A, a NAT mapping gets
created that looks like:
A.ext:4569 - B.ext...

Cubix Softphone + Asterisk 1.2.6
I've tried Idefisk and Cubix Softphones, and they both work fine, except
for two issues:
1. Idefisk seems to have a longer delay between the time I can hit
tones, and
2. Cubix, while can send DTMF faster, never actually connects to an
Asterisk-dialed call -- I can't hear the party who answers.

Softphone that emulates Skype API ?
There's a large number of gadgets one can buy that work with Skype
through the API. One of the things I'm interested right now is the
ability to properly use a mobile phone headset with a SIP/IAX softphone.
Is there an softphone that emulates the Skype API?
Are there legal implications in writing an softphone that emulates the
Skype API?
Should I just give up and buy a Siemens DECT phone that supports a
bluetooth headset?

SIP/IAX softphones for use in call centre environments
I've been working my way through the softphones listed on voip-info over the
last few weeks and I've not really found anything to fit the bill. Has
anyone had more luck?
The environment is a small call centre of 5 users. Operators often need to
be able to transfer calls to other operators with different specialties, so
the softphone needs...

Softphone recommendation
Hi Folks,
Had a quick search through the archives for softphones and cannot see any
recommended ones.
My question is what recommended free softphones are out there that can be
used with Asterix? I don't really know how many are out there. Is anyone
currently using a softphone with Asterix and if so which one and how do you
find it?
I'm only interested...

setup multiple phones for 1 extension
I'll start by saying I'm a trixbox user, and a new one at that, so
hopefully you can respond to me on those terms.
I have a user who works from home 1 day a week. On that day I'd like
for him to be able to connect with a softphone and be reachable by just
dialing his extension as we normally would. I could set him up a new
extension, then he could forward his phone there on those days. But I'd
like an easier, more transparent way to do it.
So I'd like that whenever his softphone is connected ("registered&q...
