Xen users - Jan 2011 - Can I migrate file backed VMs to another server and use LVM storage?

I''ve read up on VM migration but didn''t see any instructions
for this, or
whether it''s even possible. Is there a migration compatibility matrix
somewhere that details the xen versions, storage, VM modes, etc that are
compatible?

Can I migrate an HVM linux VM from a xen 3.3 server that uses file backed
VMs to a 4.01 server and use LVM storage?
I''m phasing out the 3.3 server but want to save the VMs so I''m
not worried
about shared storage or keeping things in sync.

If not, can I even migrate from 3.3 to 4.01 at all?

Lastly, can I even migrate an HVM VM from a Xen 3.3 server?

Assuming you don''t want live migration then yes, you can migrate 
between servers. I assume going between versions should be OK, not 
something I''m familiar with, but transferring the storage is OK.

All you need to do is copy the contents of the file into the contents 
of the LVM volume. You may be able to do this by using a tool like dd 
to wrote the contents of the file into the LVM volume in which case 
you get a byte for byte copy of the silesystem - warts and all. Or 
you can mount the filesystem, and copy the files into a freshly 
formatted filesystem on the LVM volume.

You may need to tweek a few settings in the guest afterwards, you 
often do with PV guests - eg if you''ve changed disk device names.
