virsh troubling zfs!?
Hi and hello, I have a problem confusing me. I hope someone can help me with it. I followed a "best practise" - I think - using dedicated zfs filesystems for my virtual machines. Commands (for completion): zfs create rpool/vms zfs create rpool/vms/vm1 zfs create -V 10G rpool/vms/vm1/vm1-dsk This command creates the file system /rpool/vms/vm1/vm1-dsk and the according /dev/zvol/dsk/rpool/vms/vm1/vm1-dsk. If I delete a VM i set up using this filesystem via virsh undefine vm1 the [i...

Is virsh blockcommit supported? Thanks a lot
I had test the command virsh blockcommit, but it failed, with the libvirt version 1.1.0, and qemu version 1.6.0. Is this feature being developing? Volume Heal issue

Samba for VMS
I just installed Samba for VMS (1.9.17p4) on a DecServer 1000A running VMS 7.1 The University Network is primarily NT Server 4.0 SP5. My experience is with Netware and NT, not with VMS, but I have the luck of supporting the system..... My main question is about Encrypted Passwords.....Does this release of Samba support them,...

Question regarding management of VMs using libvirtd.
Hi All, I have a question regarding the uses of libvirtd. We have the following situation to manage. We have several hosts with libvirtd running. We have one management application to manage different VMs launched in those different hosts. We want to configure the system such a way so that one libvirtd can collect information about the VMs launched by other libvirtd running in different hosts. Is it possible? Could you please point me to some resource around this? In this we will be able to get in...

rfc: vhost user enhancements for vm2vm communication
...ing advantage of the new virtio-1 virtqueue layout to split r/w and read-only rings as seen from the two sides, and make use also of BAR0 which has been freed up for use by the device. This way it would be possible to share the rings and the actual memory for the buffers in the PCI bars. The guest VMs could decide to use the shared memory regions directly as prepared by the hypervisor (in the jailhouse case) or QEMU/KVM, or perform their own validation on the input depending on the use case. Of course the communication between VMs needs in this case to be pre-configured and is quite static (whi...

[PATCH server] Add svc_vm_actions method to VmService.
Also includes a couple minor model changes to support better error reporting. This method was added so that a client could submit multiple vms to the service layer in one call and get back appropriate messages showing any failures without those failures also causing the entire call to fail, or forcing the client to implement handling (begin/rescue blocks) of these errors to continue through the submitted vm list. SetMaxMemory on Windows VMs
I am trying to instantiate VMs with the maxmem parameter higher than the memory one. On the linux VMs it works fine, but on the windows VMs (windows server 2003 and 2008) the domU dont boot, they crash! And sometimes even the dom0 crashes. Can I set the maxmem on windows VMs? How many guests
Hi Everyone, I have a Dell R210 server which has a Xeon X3430 Quad Core CPU (2.4Ghz x 4) with 8GB of RAM. I intend to use the H200 controller in a RAID1 setup How many VMs do you think I''d be able to run on this machine? Is 20 pushing it? I''d say most (if not all) guests would be in PV mode. Patch series for Cloud Vm Actions
The following two patches should be applied in the order: * [PATCH server] Add svc_vm_actions method to VmService. * [PATCH server] Cloud UI layer to initiate actions on vms. The service layer patch should work fine on its own (and not break anything), but cloud patch relies on service being there.

Reading the new 6.0 manual - now questions
I'm new to running VMs, so I'm hoping this hasn't been a problem question asked before. I've only glazed over the emails from this list since I've joined due to not really needing all of the great information if provides. Eric suggested I wait for Centos 6 to start loading my new VM host, and so I gr...

VMs XML difinitions can't be recognized after upgrading to libvirt 0.9.13
I used to run many VMs on my Ubuntu 10.04 box. However, after upgrading to Ubuntu 12.10 (and thus, libvirt 0.9.13), The VMs can't be recognized anymore. Nothing appears in the output of 'virsh list --all', nor in virt-manager. When I created a new VM based on a disk image of one of the not-recognized-any...

Detecting Co-residency of VMs on KVM
I am doing an experiment which involves detecting co-resident VMs (testing if 2 VMs are on the same physical machine) on KVM. I have tried using cache covert channel, but this test does not work if the VMs are on different processors within the same host as the caches are not shared then. If I use the tools netperf and iperf to differentiate using network channel...
