Hello, i´ve got a new Intel Nehalem server with an i7-920 CPU. I installed a Debian Lenny OS ... Now, i cannot find any images for hypervisor or kernel that seem to be runable on that hardware. :-O All of that is AMD: apt-cache search hypervisor linux-image-2.6-xen-amd64 - Linux 2.6 image on AMD64, oldstyle Xen support linux-image-xen-amd64 - Linux image on AMD64, oldstyle Xen support xen-hypervisor-3.2-1-amd64 - The Xen Hypervisor on AMD64 linux-image-2.6.26-1-xen-amd64 - Linux 2.6.26 image on AMD64, oldstyle Xen support linux-image-2.6.26-2-xen-amd64 - Linux 2.6.26 image on AMD64, oldstyle Xen support xen-linux-system-2.6.26-1-xen-amd64 - XEN system with Linux 2.6.26 image on AMD64 xen-linux-system-2.6.26-2-xen-amd64 - XEN system with Linux 2.6.26 image on AMD64 So, my question is, are there difficulties to run Xen on my hardware? Is there a way to get pre-compliled hypervisor and kernel of my OS? Should i better change the OS? Any other experiences with the hardware and Xen? Thank you for any information that gets me to finally run Xen on the server :) WEB.DE DSL: Internet, Telefon und Entertainment für nur 19,99 EUR/mtl.! http://produkte.web.de/go/02/ _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users

You need at least clone of xen-3.4-testing.hg tree or coming soon Xen 3.4.3 official release to load 2.6.32.10 PVops kernel due to CS connected with Xiantao Zhang''s "APIC Rework" was back ported only to 3.4.3. There is no much people and support behind 2.6.31.8(12) xenified aka Suse kernel (Anrew Lyon, Jun Beulich). It''s time to get rid from xenified kernels. I would suggest to choose stable pvops kernel coming with Xen 4.0 release due to Citrix.inc is, actually, behind this line . No matter would Xen Dom0 support merge main line linux or no . JF''s PVops kernels seem to be the focus of development of Citrix core team and guys from Intel and Oracle in a foreseeable future. It works for me pretty stable on F12 and Ubuntu 9.10 Server. I also believe that referenced critical CS for APIC Rework properly, otherwise somebody will correct me. Hi Boris, Nothing against building from source, but its un-maintainable, if you have a bunch of servers to manage.. think of updating and patching each of this boxes... Instead of # cd /usr/src/xen-unstable/ # make world you run # make dist In case Xen 4.0 would been released pvops kernel is supposed to be built by default. Mount /usr/src/xen-unstable/dist as NFS share on original server to current server''s /mnt directory. # cd /mnt/dist make install Boris. P.S. I understand that Ubuntu/Debian packaging would be nice. But , there is no much chance Canonical would do that for Lucid Lynx Server.
