Xen users - Jun 2009 - VLANs in domU?

Hello,

I''m using Xen 3.1 that comes with the Fedora 7 DVD. It turns out that
it
only supports 3 network interfaces in domU, so I want to try making VLANs in
domU to compensate. Here is my setup:

Computer A (regular Fedora 7 installation, no Xen installed)
---eth0 (physical)
---eth0.400 (VLAN) --- 192.168.0.1

Computer B dom0 (Xen 3.0 installed)
---eth0 (physical)
---eth0.400 (VLAN)
---vif1.0
---br0 (bridges eth0.400 and vif1.0)

Computer B domU
---eth0 (bound to vif1.0)
---eth0.400 (VLAN) --- 192.168.0.2

So A''s eth0 and B''s eth0 are connected with an ethernet cable.
I am trying
to ping 192.168.0.1 (computer A) from 192.168.0.2 (domU). The ping
request packets arrive at A (visible on Wireshark and tcpdump), but A is not
replying to them for some reason (the IP addresses and routes are
set correctly). Does anyone know why, or if this is the correct way to set
up VLANs in domU? Thanks

F7 is old and supported. If you want to try out Xen on live CD, you''d
be better with Xen Live CD :P

That won''t work. If you''ve already carved out vlan400 in dom0,
then
domU won''t have it. You should either :
- use vlan ONLY in dom0, and bridge the vlan interface, or
- use vlan ONLY in domU, and bridge the trunk

Note that lots of things can also go wrong, like NIC driver not
supporting vlan+bridge. You''d be better off with recent OS/kernel
where many bugs have been fixed. Plus you''re no longer limited to
3-NIC on domU.
