[Xen-users] Network configulation error in Windows Vista Business HVM / Xen 3.04

Dear all;

I am trying to set up the Japanese version of Windows Vista Business on the
Fedora Core 7 test 3, which has the rpm of xen-3.0.4-9.fc7. I have a success
to install the Windows HVM with Pentium D 750 CPU. However, I cannot
configure the network, which can be worked for the Windows XP / Xen,which
says the card is Realtek RTL8139 Family PCI Fast Ethernet NIC. My network
card is on-board card (Intel EtherExpress/1000 gigabit) of Gigabyte
GA-8I945G-MBX motherboard, that is recognized as the eth0.

When we checked the bridge, we have the following message;

[root@localhost makoto]# /usr/sbin/brctl show xenbr0 
bridge name bridge id STP enabled interfaces 
virbr0 8000.000000000000 no 
xenbr0 8000.feffffffffff no peth0 
vif0.0

peth0 is recognized as the Intel Corporation 82573V Gigabit Ethernet
Controller (Copper) card under the Gnome network configulation.

After downloading the Realtek driver, I have improved the network status as
"local and internet"; however, the network is still "unrecognized
network",
which I do not know why.

Is there anyone who had tried to install the Windows Vista and which is
successful?

I would appreciate if you would give me some advice.

That''s a known problem. Can you try the driver from Windows 2003? The
driver on the X64 seems to be working fine, though.

Sorry for the late reply. I tried to copy the Realtek driver from the
Windows 2003 / Xen HVM. However, it did not work. It is because the version
of the Realtek driver installed in Windows 2003 Server was older than that
of Windows Vista Business. Moreover, I could not find out which files /
directories are appropriate for the whole copying from Win2003 to WinVista.
I just copied RTL8139.sys from c:\Windows\System32/drivers.

 

Is there any advice for me?

            What do You think about the using the second possibility of NIC
hardware for DomU - the NE2000 compatible card/driver? Maybe this will
work... You must just define Your virtual network interface in your DomU
configuration file with the "model" switch similary to the line 

 

            vif = [ ''type=ioemu, mac=00:16:3e:00:00:11, bridge=xenbr0,
model=ne2k_pci'' ]

 

            And this should bring the different HW to Windows guest - and
NE2000 compatible cards could/should be supported more than the realtec...

I tried again, and WinXP/Xen and Win2003/Xen say now the network card is
Realtek 8029, whose driver can be downloaded on the web with the inf file.
However, this file didn''t work. (I also must say that WinVista says the
most
appropriate network driver is the Realtek 8139C+, which does not work well.)

 

I also tried to copy again from Win2003 the inf files for the RRL8139.sys.
Nevertheless, it does not work. The message is again "The newest driver is
installed (Realtek 8139C+)"

 

I''m not sure why model=ne2k_pci is not detected as a Novell''s
driver nor any
other options such as model=pcnet. (how many drivers do xen support as the
network card?)

(which Jun must have pointed out) "Ian Pratt" could answer to my
question.
