samba - Jan 2005 - File Create Date Changes when file is modified?

Using RHEL 3 w/ext3, Samba 3.07.

It appears that a file's CREATE DATE changes whenever that file is
modified. Is this normal? If so, what can I do to fix this... Use
another file system?
