I had a problem logging on to the network, it was not getting my roaming profile, so I created a new logon and copied all of the information from the old profile directory to the new login profile directory. I logged on and everything seemed okay, it's like loggin on to the machine for the first time. When I start up MS Outlook my email account is not there, it asks me to setup a new account, how do I get outlook to find my email settings from the old login? I copied them from the old profile on the samba machine to the new one so everything should be there, but I cannot figure it out. I am using Win XP so the old .pst should be under Documents and Settings Application Data Microsoft and Outlook, correct? I tried to load the old .pst file and the only thing it gave me was an inbox with a couple of pieces of mail from july. Is there somewhere else that should have the newer data. Also, shouldn't I be able to login to the XP machine somehow with the old username or admin account and pull off the info?>From: "Owens, Bob" <bowens@navtech.com> >To: "'Tyler Durdin'" <linuxgeek23@hotmail.com> >Subject: RE: [Samba] problem with logon and outlook >Date: Fri, 6 Dec 2002 12:07:36 -0600 > >Tyler, > >You will have to resetup the outlook account but make sure to use your old >*.pst if you are not on an exchange server. > >-Bob > >-----Original Message----- >From: Tyler Durdin [mailto:linuxgeek23@hotmail.com] >Sent: Friday, December 06, 2002 12:05 PM >To: samba@lists.samba.org >Subject: [Samba] problem with logon and outlook > > > >I had a problem logging on to the network, it was not getting my roaming >profile, so I created a new logon and copied all of the information from >the > >old profile directory to the new login profile directory. Hi Tyler, It should be, maybe do a search for all *.pst files on your machine to see if you can find a newer one. Also if you are using roaming profiles check in your profile folder on the server. After you delete a profile it looses its settings. You are creating the profile again for the first time so all the settings for that profile need to be recreated. -----Original Message----- From: Tyler Durdin [mailto:linuxgeek23@hotmail.com] Sent: Friday, December 06, 2002 12:13 PM To: bowens@navtech.com Subject: RE: [Samba] problem with logon and outlook I am using Win XP so the old .pst should be under Documents and Settings Application Data Microsoft and Outlook, correct? Nevermind I found it. In case anyone runs into this situation Outlook stores it files (for XP and w2k anyway) in Documents and Settings -- Local Settings (this is a hidden folder) -- Application Data -- Microsoft -- Outlook. This is where the .pst and the archive folder live. Thanks for the help. _________________________________________________________________ MSN 8 helps eliminate e-mail viruses. I've had the same problem with outlook, but I always have to re-create the mail settings and then import the old .pst file. From what I understand, there are registry settings for that user that need to be extracted from the old profile and placed it the new one. But I'm not totally sure of this as I never pursued it. Grabbing the old pst is not enough. Is Anyone an expert in outlook and the use of profiles? Good Luck!
