Hi Duncan,
Basically you have a Domain SID issue. The domain SID from your work is
attached to your profile. (If you are using the same user name and
password to log onto your notebook at home.).
Check the following:
1. The samba server is not set up as a domain controller
2. That security = share
3. You are logging on locally to your notebook not to the domain.
Other than that please post your smb.conf
